Product Description
The RME ADI-2/4 Pro EX sits at the top of RME’s converter lineup, combining reference-class AD/DA conversion, a high-end headphone amplifier, and a versatile mastering hub in a compact half-rack enclosure. It provides two channels of analog-to-digital conversion and four channels of digital-to-analog conversion using ESS’s latest ES9823Pro A/D and ES9039Q2M D/A converters. At up to 32-bit/768 kHz, it delivers up to 127 dBA signal-to-noise ratio, lower distortion, and even greater accuracy. RME’s refined Extended Linear Analog Range (ELAR) technology preserves signal integrity through the entire analog path for an exceptionally linear, transparent sound. SteadyClock EX adds factory calibration of the internal clock to ±1 ppm. Its “Sync without Sync” function lets you trim the sample rate in 0.1 ppm steps to match external equipment without a dedicated word clock connection. The ADI-2/4 Pro EX works as a mastering converter, a USB DAC, a multi-format converter for AES, SPDIF, and ADAT, a DSD record and playback system, a measurement front end, and a vinyl digitizing solution, all in one 1U half-rack unit.
EXTREME POWER HEADPHONE OUTPUTS
RME’s Extreme Power headphone stage has been further improved, delivering more power and lower noise along with dedicated High Power, Low Power, and IEM settings for full compatibility with everything from demanding studio headphones to sensitive in-ear monitors. True Balanced mode drives balanced headphones from DAC channels 3/4, so the rear outputs can carry a completely independent signal at the same time. In balanced operation, the outputs deliver up to 3.85 W per channel into 32 Ω with no change in signal-to-noise ratio. Every headphone output is protected by a mute relay, over-current detection, per-channel DC protection, and plug detection. DSP features add automatic volume assignment, volume ramp-up, and auto balanced mode.
FLEXIBLE ANALOG AND DIGITAL CONNECTIVITY
The two servo-balanced inputs accept XLR or TRS. Reference levels now reach down to -35 dBu, so you can connect dynamic microphones directly. For vinyl, the RIAA phono mode is now available in Line mode for use with external phono preamps. Selectable 94 kΩ and 47 kΩ balanced input impedances optimize balanced moving magnet cartridges, and a dedicated ground terminal simplifies turntable setups. Separate balanced XLR and TRS outputs can be used at once. The rear TRS outputs can be fed from the Line or Phones signal path, which makes them ideal for inserting outboard gear during mastering. Digital connectivity includes AES, coaxial SPDIF, and optical SPDIF with ADAT support, and ADAT channels 3/4 can now be selected directly as a headphone source.
USB-C, DSP, AND PROTECTION
A lockable USB-C connector provides a secure connection in the studio or on the go. It’s fully Class Compliant for macOS, iOS, Linux, and Windows, with stereo and multichannel modes and full ASIO and WDM support on Windows. The onboard DSP adds 5-band parametric EQ, Bass/Treble, Crossfeed, and Loudness. A high-resolution IPS display shows peak meters, a 30-band analyzer, and a status overview. New active power protection guards against reverse polarity and overvoltage. Battery operation enables mobile and galvanically isolated use, and the ADI-2 Remote software and MRC remote give you full control from anywhere in the room.
