Dangerous Music has managed to condense the acclaimed BAX EQ into a single-channel 500 Series module, delivering the same smooth and musical tone-shaping power in a more compact format. Built around the same core design principles, the Dangerous Music BAX500 features Baxandall high- and low-shelving EQ curves that gently open up or tame high frequencies and subtly enhance or round off the low-end. It also features gradually sloping high-cut and low-cut filters for removing infrasonic rumble and ultrasonic noise. Plus, its DC-coupled signal path includes a relay-controlled bypass for seamless A/B comparisons. Perfect for enhancing just about any sound source you put through it, the Dangerous Music BAX500 is an excellent single-slot 500 Series EQ for tracking, mixing, and mastering studios alike.
WHAT IS BAXANDALL EQ?
A Baxandall EQ uses gentle shelving curves that emphasize musicality and smoothness rather than narrow, surgical boosts or cuts. These wide-band adjustments let you add high-end "air" or low-end weight in broad strokes, without emphasizing harshness or muddiness. Baxandall curves are also great for subtractive EQ, subtly rounding off excess bass and taming overly bright tracks without making it feel like anything's missing. To keep things sounding subtle and musical, Baxandall EQs like the Dangerous Music BAX500 (and the rack-mount BAX EQ) typically feature a limited gain range (±5 dB in this case). That may not seem like much, but it's the perfect amount for getting the most out of the broad shelves' shape without going too far.
VERSATILE FILTERING WITH SIMPLE CONTROLS
Stepped controls provide simple operation and easy recall for repeatable results. Each shelf and filter features an eight-position frequency selector with preselected frequencies chosen for maximum musicality. The Hi Shelf knob stops at 18, 7.1, 4.8, 3.4, 2.5, 2.1, 1.8, and 1.6 kHz, while the Low Shelf offers 74, 84, 98, 116, 131, 166, 230, and 361 Hz options. Both include a Gain knob with a range of ±5 dB in 1/2 dB increments. Featuring natural slopes of 12 dB per octave, the low- and high-cut filters each offer seven frequency centers and an OFF setting. The Low Cut filter can be set to 54, 43, 36, 30, 24, 18, or 12 Hz, while the Hi Cut settings include 70, 28, 16, 12.6, 11.1, 9, and 7.5 kHz. Whether you use it for mix bus processing, vocal tracking, or anything else, this single-slot 500 Series EQ will breathe new life into your tracks.,
TRANSPARENT SOUND AND ROCK-SOLID PHASE COHERENCE
The BAX500 is designed to be transparent, improving your mix without changing its character. Its phase-coherent design keeps the high and low bands working together, avoiding the phase issues that can make audio sound smeared or unfocused. That means you can make broad EQ moves while keeping your mix clear and natural. Drums stay punchy, vocals remain upfront, and stereo imaging stays intact. Whether you're mixing or mastering, the BAX500 lets you shape the tone of a track while preserving its dynamics, depth, and detail.
MADE WITH MASTERING-GRADE COMPONENTS
The Dangerous Music BAX500 is built using audiophile-grade parts to deliver low noise, high headroom, and long-term reliability. Dangerous Music hardware components are selected to minimize distortion and coloration, so even subtle adjustments yield musical improvements without introducing artifacts. The stepped HF/LF and filter positions provide tactile, repeatable settings that are essential for session recall and consistent mastering workflows.
