Barefoot Sound Footprint01 & Footrpitn02 Gen2 Studio Monitors

In 2017, Barefoot Sound changed the game for audio engineers with the brand’s groundbreaking Footprint Series studio monitors. Equipped with the same Dual-Force technology as the brand’s MicroMain series monitors, the Footprint01 delivered the signature Barefoot sound in a compact, affordable package that’s perfect for engineers in smaller studios. A few years later, Barefoot released the Footprint02, an even smaller and more cost-effective addition to the family.

Now, Barefoot is shaking things up again with the brand’s new Footprint01 Gen2 and Footprint02 Gen2 studio monitors.

Don’t let the Gen2 title fool you—these speakers didn’t just receive a simple update—they were completely redesigned from the ground up with a new tri-amplified architecture, new drivers, advanced DSP with SPOC technology, and a refined cabinet design.

Barefoot Sound Footprint Series

Barefoot Sound was founded by Thomas Barefoot in the mid-2000s. A lifelong tinkerer and engineer by trade, Thomas started the company as a side passion while working at Intel. Today, the Footprint Series is the ultimate realization of Thomas’ original goal: to make top-quality, affordable, and space-friendly studio monitors that can handle any task or setup.

The Footprint01 launched as the flagship of the "affordable Footprint" lineup; the biggest and most capable monitor in the range. It paved the way for the Footprint02, a slightly smaller and more cost-effective monitor that retained the same sonic signature as its larger sibling.

Then came the Footprint03, a ported design that became the series's most budget-friendly and space-conscious option. Rounding out the lineup is the Footprint03C, originally conceived as a center channel for immersive audio configurations but now widely adopted as a go-to stereo solution.

Exclusive Barefoot Features

  • Dual-Force Technology: The most visually striking aspect of the Footprint01 and Footprint02 are the two subwoofers on opposite sides of the enclosure. Both drivers are connected by the same motor and move in and out in opposite directions, canceling out low-end vibrations before they even begin.
  • Dual Ring Radiator Tweeter: This unique tweeter design widens the high-end dispersion for greater flexibility and a more forgiving “sweet spot” as the listener moves around.
  • SPOC (Spectrally Optimized Conversion): This groundbreaking technology incorporates a crossover section before analog-to-digital conversion, allowing high frequencies to pass into the converter unattenuated, resulting in higher audio resolution and a more transparent signal.
  • MEME Technology Voice Emulation: This software accurately recreates classic nearfield studio monitors at the flip of a switch.

Barefoot Sound Footprint01 & Footprint02 Gen2 Studio Monitors

Barefoot’s new Footprint01 and Footprint02 Gen2 studio monitors introduce a number of improvements over the original design, including a new tri-amplified architecture, new drivers, advanced DSP with SPOC technology, and a refined cabinet design.

Tri-Amplified Architecture

Although the original Footprint01 and Footprint02 studio monitors featured a three-way design, both models only included two amps. The new Footprint01 and Footprint02 Gen2 studio monitors use a tri-amplified design with dedicated Class D amplifiers powering each driver, ensuring maximum headroom, minimal distortion, and a perfectly balanced frequency response

Footprint01 Gen2 Class D Amplifiers

  • 60W for the tweeter
  • 150W for the midrange driver
  • 500W for the woofers

Footprint02 Gen2 Class D Amplifiers

  • 60W for the tweeter
  • 150W for the midrange driver
  • 200W for the woofers

Newly Designed Drivers

At the core of the new design are three custom Barefoot drivers: a 1-inch dual-ring radiator tweeter, a 5-inch aluminum cone midrange, and a pair of aluminum woofers working together through the brand’s proprietary Dual-Force technology. Built for extended excursion and improved efficiency, these drivers deliver tighter imaging, faster transients, and a soundstage that feels more open and revealing.

Tweeter

The updated 1-inch dual-ring radiator tweeter now sports a distinct aluminum-colored cone and a stronger magnet assembly, allowing for greater excursion and improved thermal control.

Midrange

Handling the critical midrange is a powerful 5-inch aluminum cone driver with a larger voice coil and reinforced motor structure.

Woofers

The low-end is driven by Barefoot’s Dual-Force technology, featuring either dual 8-inch or 6.5-inch aluminum cone woofers. By cancelling internal vibrations and reinforcing cabinet rigidity, Footprint Series studio monitors produce tight, controlled bass.

SPOC (SPectrally Optimized Conversion) Technology

First introduced in the Footprint03 studio monitors, the new Footprint01 and Footprint02 Gen2 studio monitors feature Barefoot’s state-of-the-art SPOC (SPectrally Optimized Conversion) technology, which introduces an analog crossover filter before the digital converters. The result is better signal-to-noise ratio, higher digital resolution, improved transient response, and reduced latency.

Refined Cabinet Design

Barefoot’s new Footprint01 and Footprint02 Gen2 studio monitors also feature an updated cabinet design with increased internal volume, optimized bracing, and enhanced damping. Built from medium-density fiberboard (MDF) using stress assembly techniques that enhance structural rigidity and minimize resonance, the new Gen2 cabinets are tuned for optimal dispersion and transient response.

On the outside, the new cabinet design is compatible with premium mounting solutions from brands like Triad-Orbit, making the new Footprint01 and Footprint02 Gen2 studio monitors ideal for immersive and Dolby Atmos mixing rigs.
