TELEFUNKEN microphones come from over a century’s worth of continuous excellence and the conscious effort to put classic designs into the hands of new generations of audio engineers. After Toni Fishman acquired the rights to the original name and logo, he began reverse-engineering the TELEFUNKEN ELA-M 251 in response to a common issue with the polar pattern switch. The rebirth of the ELA-M 251 spurred other iconic recreations while also fueling the momentum for the development of the brand’s most successful microphone families to date.

The revitalized ELA-M 251 astounded everyone, particularly the AES convention in 2002. The praise and recognition inspired TELEFUNKEN to reissue other key models from the past, like the U47 and C12. The Diamond Series is a reissue line of historically praised TELEFUNKEN microphones built to exact specs. In keeping with the tradition of the ELA-M 251, all parts for the Diamond Series microphones are custom tooled and machined in the USA, largely in Connecticut and other New England states. Every microphone is assembled from the ground up and tested in the TELEFUNKEN lab before leaving to go work in the field.
The Alchemy Series combines vintage microphone elements with modern performance. Like the Diamond Series, Alchemy Series microphones are designed, hand-built, and tested to strict quality standards. All components (premium American and European vacuum tubes, historically accurate transformers, and hand-plugged circuit boards) are paired with sturdy grilles for transparent sound. The unique profile of each Alchemy Series microphone, from the TF29 to the T51, is inspired by design concepts of historic models like the U47, M49, and C12. For the perfect blend of vintage-inspired design and modern performance, the Alchemy Series is the way to go.
Beginning with the release of the M80, TELEFUNKEN began crafting its Dynamic Series microphones. The condenser-like frequency response of the M80, along with the more subdued high-end of the alternate M81, suit vocal and snare applications particularly well. Wireless and mountable variations followed. The growth of the Dynamic Series is tied to further development of the DD4 and DD5 drum microphone sets and the series’ overall efficiency in different uses across the field. The current Dynamic Series reflects the continuous effort to build high quality dynamic mics for studio recording, broadcasting, or live performances.
The small diaphragm condenser M60 FET was TELEFUNKEN’s foray into FET mic design, as well as a general shift towards fresh territory for the company. The M60’s incredibly fast transient response captures every nuance with impressive precision and clarity, resulting in an extremely detailed sonic image. The M60 has a couple other variants; the omnidirectional M61 and hypercardioid M62 offer the same standard of quality performance while catering to different instruments and environments. The development of the FET collection was the beginning of TELEFUNKEN’s successful venture toward new markets. Today, TELEFUNKEN also offers drum microphone packages, DI boxes, and stereo sets of their top-performing Diamond Series microphones.
TELEFUNKEN microphones are formidable options for ideal sound during tracking. The brand’s heritage is rooted in the simple idea of building the best microphones using quality parts. Thanks to TELEFUNKEN’s rich and varied microphone series, you have plenty of options to aid any recording or broadcast session.
