The Soyuz 017 FET large diaphragm condenser microphone delivers sound as rich, warm, and beautiful as its handcrafted, polished design suggests. This high-performance microphone is at home in a wide range of critical recording applications, from vocals to orchestral instruments. The 017 FET shares the 017 TUBE’s cardioid capsule, featuring a gold-sputtered, hand-tuned one-inch diaphragm. As with all Soyuz microphones, the 017 FET is completely handmade: bodies and capsules are manually machined, transformers are wound in-house, and all wiring is true point-to-point. The SU-017 FET features a carefully designed, low-noise Field Effect Transistor topography and the rich sound of custom in-house created and crafted toroidal transformers. The green-badged 017 FET comes in a wooden case with a custom, hand-machined shock mount.
The classic sound of the 017 was previously considered impossible to achieve with new microphones. Engineers routinely spent small fortunes on vintage condensers and fought to keep them operational as they aged as new models – and even reissues – were often not imbued with the same desired characteristics despite their hefty price tags. This is not surprising: manufacturing techniques have changed, why wouldn’t the results? With its open top-end, smooth mid-range, powerful – yet balanced – low-end, and remarkably robust build quality, the 017 is destined to be the future benchmark of that elusive mixture of accuracy and sonic flattery that has sent vintage prices soaring.
Collectively, the engineers at Soyuz have spent decades studying, servicing, and building classic microphones; this unique pool of knowledge, craft, and skill — combined with the golden ears of numerous musicians, producers, and audio engineers — has culminated in the creation of the custom S17 capsule used in the 017 Series. Based on the legendary K67 capsule developed in 1960, Soyuz has further modified the design to achieve an airy yet accurate high end, elegantly smooth midrange presence, and a robust but balanced bottom end.
The 017 FET employs the same handmade capsule as the 017 TUBE, a proprietary toroidal transformer, and a completely original circuit design. These elements work together to deliver a tonal character that is as rich and detailed as its tube brother's, but with the slightly faster transient response characteristic of a FET microphone.
I love sound
This is among the best microphones one can buy. It’s not at all sibilant, and while giving the detail of a FET, is not as sharp or fatiguing compared to most FET microphones while sounding very natural.
Absolutely fantastic mic for vocals. It really is the new gold standard, or at least should be. Works very well for strings too.
Real sleeper mic. Commonly out competes classic vintage options on the right source. Exceptional vocal mic. Buy this mic and all your wildest dreams will come true.
Grateful that VK let me try out a couple of mics before making my purchase.... this was the mic I was looking for... thanks again for the good customer service
I’ve used this microphone for the past couple of months and it’s AMAZING! It tends to lean more on the darker side of the spectrum and I love it. It’s fantastic on vocals and acoustic instruments. It just makes everything sound better!!
