The Rupert Neve Designs RNDI Active Transformer DI could be the last Direct Box you’ll ever need. Where most DI boxes leave your signal sounding thin, The RNDI is capable of reproducing the full harmonic depth of whatever source you send it. RNDI is a Transformer based, Class-A, discrete Direct Box, and is one of the clearest direct boxes on the market. Perfect for Bass, Guitars, Keyboards, and Drum Triggers.
One of the biggest features of RNDI is the selectable speaker input, which allows you to pull the signal directly from your amplifier, eliminating the need to mic your cabinet. You can also go “Thru” the RNDI into a speaker, mic both for a wide range of tones.
I bought this for use with my '78 Ampeg SVT, which doesn't have a direct output. This is the next best thing, and I swear I'm hearing the interaction between the power section and the speakers since the DI is between the two. Of course it requires some LPF to tame the top end that the 810 doesn't reproduce, but the bottom end more than makes up for it. This thing sounds amazing, and it sounds great as a regular instrument DI too!
Amazon piece of gear and put my bass recordings over the top. So clean, clear and transparent. Applying compression is a revelation now.
I no longer have this piece. I liked the versatility, EXCEPT requiring the 48v instead of a power supply. I have the Phoenix Audio Nimbus, which made the Neve expendable. But I have (2) R6 boxes and a 511. Im showing Neve Luv!! RaJuR real deep kool on the web.
Such clarity! I thought I had a favorite when it came to active DIs, but the RNDI now holds that position in my kit. Especially fun to use on acoustic guitar and clean electric, where preserving the transient and harmonic content is critical. On acoustic, with high-quality monitoring, it's hard to tell where the sound from the instrument ends and the sound coming through foldback via the RNDI begins. Proving useful in-studio as well; current favorite application is bass DI into a Neve 33115 module, no compression. Thunderous!
great sound!!
The RNDI helped me track down the elusive electric guitar tone that I’ve been searching for. I record in my small home studio using a Windows PC running a DAW. Powered by 48V phantom power from my audio interface’s mic pre, the RNDI gives me the clear, rich signal that virtual effects need. It’s a rugged, well-designed piece of gear that stays in place and looks cool. This was my first purchase from Vintage King and I am 100% satisfied.
This is an amazing device. For years I used an LR Baggs Para DI. Then our FOH guy convinced me to try the Neve for sound check and I liked it so much I ordered one on my phone from the Green room! It adds a very pleasing acoustic quality and helps my guitar sit in the mix nicely. Best $270 dollars I ever spent! If your looking for better acoustic tone buy one!
