Product Description
Ohma World designs microphones around giving engineers more ways to shape a recording at the source, and the Ohmie takes that idea in a new direction. The Ohma World Ohmie is a fixed-cardioid condenser microphone built around an edge-terminated capsule, low-noise transformerless electronics, and a Dual Voltage system that allows the capsule to operate at two different polarization voltages.
The Ohmie is built to move between sources: vocals, instruments, drums, amps, piano, rooms, spoken voice, and field recording. It has a full low end, clear, substantial mids, and a smooth top end with plenty of detail, without the exaggerated brightness common to many modern condensers. It brings a clear, musical sound to a vocal with little EQ and carries that same balance across whatever source comes next.
ONE CAPSULE, TWO OPERATING POINTS
Dual Voltage gives the Ohmie two distinct characters from the same capsule. A rear switch selects between 48V and 80V polarization, letting the microphone change its response to the source without changing the mic placement, circuitry, or the rest of the signal chain. Both modes run from standard 48V phantom power, with 80V generated internally.
48V gives the Ohmie its smoother, more open character. The source retains its movement and dynamics without being pushed forward, while the microphone’s full low end, substantial mids, and smooth top remain intact. It also provides 5 dB more maximum SPL than 80V, giving louder performances and sharp transients additional headroom.
80V brings the source forward with a more immediate, focused character, greater punch and definition, and a slight lift in the lows and highs. Sensitivity increases by approximately 5 dB with no increase in self-noise. More signal leaves the microphone before the preamp, which can reduce downstream gain requirements on quiet or distant recordings while giving the microphone a more assertive character. Dual Voltage is not simply a loud/quiet switch. It gives the same microphone two meaningful ways to respond to a source.
BUILT FOR MORE THAN THE STUDIO
The Ohmie is designed to move easily beyond a traditional studio setup. Its high output, low self-noise, compact mounting system, and internal capsule isolation make it well suited to field recording, ambience, sampling, Foley, location work, podcasting, streaming, and other portable setups. Both voltage modes operate from standard 48V phantom power, making the Ohmie compatible with studio interfaces, preamps, mixers, and phantom-powered portable recorders.
BUILT TO REDUCE VIBRATION
The Ohmie’s capsule is seated in an internal isolation system designed to reduce unwanted vibration before it reaches the capsule. The included rubber Shock Clip provides an additional layer of mechanical isolation from vibration traveling through the microphone stand. Together, the two systems provide everyday vibration control without requiring a conventional external shock mount.
DESIGNED AND ASSEMBLED IN EAST LOS ANGELES
The Ohmie is designed, assembled, and tested by the Ohma World team in East Los Angeles, with electronics, microphone assembly, and final testing handled in-house. The team brings deep experience developing professional recording equipment, including work on some of the most respected microphones in the industry. The result is microphone expertise reimagined for the way microphones can look, sound, and perform today.
