Since 1970, the AMS Neve 1073 has been one of the most acclaimed mic preamps and EQs in the pro audio industry. The legendary sound has been the secret ingredient to some of the top recordings over the last 40 years, all due to its big and punchy sound that compliments any genre of music - from rap to rock to classical. The AMS Neve 1073SPX now has expanded features to better fit with today’s recording industry standards. The front panel now includes an integrated DI input, insert that offers true bypass, input and output level meters, and an additional input connector that accepts microphone or line level for easy and direct connection.

I had a Neve 1073 LB 500, still do. To my ear, the SPX sounds smoother and has more pleasing character. Having the EQ is a major plus vs the LB. Also the insert and DI features make this a more useful device. I have recorded bass, vocals and guitar amps so far. Just knocked out by the results. The metering is very useful as well. Just wish you could see the frequency selects better as they are hidden from view by the adjacent knob. Not really that big of a deal though. Overall very happy I bought this.
I own a number of mic press that are great Origin SST, ISA 220, and James Demeter, but there is something about that Neve sound, it has a presence that just say’s “ I’m Neve” it really is amazing how it stands out from the other Preamps, and that does not mean its better, it just means it sounds so darn good on anything you put through it, my only regret is a just got one, I need to get another for a stereo pair.My only negative thought is the plastic buttons on the front do not feel very solid.
Definitely does the “neve” thing… I tried two other neve style preamps, and returned them. I also have a neve clone. All of these preamps have a great sound and could be very useful but none of them did what the neve does. This is it.
I love it!!
Everything I’m use to hearing from the 1073s I’ve worked on in the past. You will definitely turn this quickly became a work horse in my studio.

I love the EQ, I love the preamp, all around, a solid amazing piece of gear. When I'm mixing songs, I'll run the vocals out through the 1073 EQ, and it has such a way of brightening up the vocals, and removing any muddiness, of course with skilled knob turning lol. Between this and the Daking EQ, Must have in the mixing chain. I also love running kick's and snares through it as well. Thank you Neve for this amazing gear, and thank you Vintage King for being so great!!
For the money this is the best sounding preamp I’ve heard - comparing it to the UAD 1073 plug-in and the warm audio 73 it’s night and day smoother and crisper.
This Neve 1073 SPX is very open and wide complimenting my Neumann U87 & UA Apollo interface. SPX breaths life into my 1956 Harmony H15 bobcat as we as my Steve Vai white Ibanez via DI input. Great product by the great Rupert Neve!
Top shelf mic preamp. I used it for vocals , DI for bass and mic on a guitar cab. Great sound on all sources. The diversity of the insert (pre or post) is ideal for patching in a compressor. I will be adding a second one soon.
This thing is amazing. Vocals sound great through it. eq is amazing and natural, very functional metering options and inputs on front and back are useful. The Insert point provides flexible routing options for your sound before conversion. With so many plugin emus and similar brands making 1073 versions, there is no substitute for the pride you feel in seeing that NEVE label on your 1073. With this you leave yourself no excuses for not getting the great professional competitive sound your looking for
Grainy, fat, character. Love the sound I get out of vocals from this preamp.
I've used clones in the past but there is nothing like the real deal. The Neve 1073spx is punchy, full and forward sounding. The addition of the insert along with the option to choose pre or post equalizer makes this a diverse unit. Thanks to Troy Manning for handling my account, and his knowledge of 1073's provided me with the information I needed to make a purchase. Looking forward to adding another one.
There’s not much to say, it’s Neve and it sounds absolutely amazing. Worth every penny! I just wish I had enough pennies to buy more.
The Neve 1073 SPX needs know introduction. It is simply
magic!! once a signal is ran through it. End of quote!
Everything I expected from Neve sound. The EQ makes it very versatile between styles and "insert" option is also great since I have few analog compressors.
I’ve Recored with the best pre amps money can buy , But I still come back to the 1073, I especially like the insert feature and output control for tracking purposes on the SPX . “Neve Tone” , just can’t beat it !!!!!
Amazing !!! Thanks
loving it !
