Designed for crystal-clear recording and playback with massive dynamic range, Neumann's first-ever audio interface promises to bring out the full fidelity of their world-class microphones, monitors, and headphones. With an intuitive touchscreen interface, ample digital signal processing (DSP) resources, and flexible expansion options, the Neumann MT 48 is an excellent choice for anyone who values pristine sound quality, ease of use, and scalability.
While the MT 48 has always supported the open standard RAVENNA/AES67 for networked audio, some users requested compatibility with the Dante protocol, developed and overseen by Audinate. Due to its ease of use and high compatibility, Dante is widely used in the live and installation sector. For Dante operation, Neumann provides an alternative Dante firmware free of charge installable via the MT Portal application. In addition, an 8x8 or 64x64 I/O Dante channel license is required, which must be purchased from Audinate. This ensures there are no additional costs for users who do not require Dante.
Developed in collaboration with Merging Technologies, the MT 48’s class-leading A/D converters boast an unmatched 136 dB(A) of dynamic range—four times the range of current interfaces limited to 123 dB(A). Two extremely low-noise mic/line preamps offer up to 78 dB of clean gain, while the ultra low-impedance headphone outputs ensure that your headphones perform at their peak. Dual monitor/line outputs and instrument/line inputs round out the analog I/O, while digital options including ADAT, S/PDIF, AES67, and MIDI allow you to expand your setup with additional preamps, interfaces, and peripherals.
The MT 48’s internal DSP includes a fully parametric 4-band EQ and a three-way dynamics processor (gate/compressor/limiter) per channel, as well as a high-quality reverb. You can even create four independent monitor mixes with integrated talkback, right from the large color touchscreen. Neumann’s Dual Output Technology makes it possible to record wet and dry signals simultaneously, so you always have an unprocessed backup if necessary. The MT 48 can even be operated without a computer as a standalone as a mixing console. While the MT 48’s main strength is its best-in-class input stage, its comprehensive feature set and flexibility make it one of the best options on the market for smaller studios.
Despite its enormous scope of features, the MT 48 always remains easy to operate. All settings can be made on the device itself via the built-in touchscreen. The perfect monitor mix is just a touch away! Simply use your fingers to adjust pan pots, channel faders and much more, without having to switch to a mixer software on your computer. The MT 48 can even be operated stand-alone as a mixing console.
The MT 48 leaves nothing to be desired: audio quality at the highest level, built-in DSP processing, comprehensive expandability, and convenient operation via touchscreen. The MT 48 is the missing link in the Neumann universe, connecting microphones, loudspeakers and headphones to create the perfect studio.
Sounds flawless. The headphone amp is truly exceptional, my headphones all now sound like the best versions of themselves. Not only is the ADC and DAC excellent (truly mastering-grade stuff here), but the onboard output EQ is also very, very good. I was able to ditch room correction software and simply measure the room myself and tune things by hand right on the MT48. I have the best translation I've ever had thanks to this thing. I also don't record much these days, but the few times I have, the preamps have been absolutely world class, you can certainly depend on the built in preamps in this thing on their own. However, the best endorsement I can give the MT48 is that I don't have to think about it. It does its job day in and day out, the firmware is rock steady on both Mac and Windows, and it just gets out of the way of making and mixing music. It may sound expensive on paper, but in terms of value you'd be very hard pressed to find this level of quality and feature set in a similarly priced unit.
Love this. I hope they make one with more io 🙏🧡🙏
