A Deeper Look At Meris's History
Meris founders Terry Burton, Angelo Mazzocco, and Jinna Kim convened in California in the 2000s. Angelo and Terry had worked together at Line 6, while Terry and Jinna had also worked at Strymon. Itching for a new venture with fewer creative boundaries, the three took the leap into developing the Meris brand.
The company's aesthetic reflects an obsession with wacky, unorthodox, and avant-garde tools for guitar processing and pro audio. Pedals like the Mercury7 helped bring the brand widespread attention, while the Polymoon, Enzo, and Hedra continued to expand its sonic palette. More recently, Meris has taken that same adventurous approach even further with the LVX modular delay system, MercuryX modular reverb system, Enzo X modular instrument synthesizer, and Ottobit X modular texture engine.
While many Meris enthusiasts may know the company for its brilliant guitar pedals, its lineup extends well beyond stompboxes. The company's 500 Series offerings started with the 440 Mic Preamp, which delivers an op-amp-style console sound and features 1/4" Send and Return connections for integrating external effects. Designed with guitarists in mind, the 440 offers a flexible front end for recording guitars and plenty of other sources in the studio.
In addition to the 440, several Meris designs have found a home in the 500 Series format, including the Mercury7, Ottobit, and Hedra. These modules bring the company's creative approach to reverb, bit crushing, modulation, pitch shifting, and rhythmic processing directly into the studio rack, giving recording engineers access to the same boundary-pushing sounds that have made Meris pedals so popular.
