The Melbourne Instruments ROTO-CONTROL is a unique motorized MIDI controller, unlike anything seen before. Rethink software and hardware interactions via fully assignable motorized touch-sensitive knobs, user definable haptics for detailed control, high-res screens providing easy-to-read labels for every control, and internal memory with storage for over 16,000 possible assignments. Powerful, compact, and portable, ROTO-CONTROL features three main modes of operation: MIX, PLUGIN and MIDI with Motion Recorder.
Advanced Logic Pro integration for ROTO-CONTROL has arrived, expanding on the recent implementation of Ableton Live and Bitwig Studio support. ROTO-CONTROL introduces a fully tactile, motorized controller for Logic Pro users, delivering fast, hands-on control of tracks, plugins, smart controls and automation. MIX Mode mirrors Logic Pro's session track names, colors and order, while providing high-resolution control of volume, pan, sends, and instant access to mute, solo, record-arm and track focus. PLUGIN Mode allows users to browse and select Logic Pro instruments and effects directly from ROTO-CONTROL. Parameters can be mapped instantly using touch-and-learn, with up to eight pages of controls stored on the device ready for any project. Smart Controls are automatically mapped, offering up to 16 parameters available in both PLUGIN Mode and the dedicated SMART Mode.
Plug and play digital audio workstation (DAW) mix environment. Automatically sync Ableton Live, Bitwig Studio and Logic Pro sessions with all track names and colors instantly appearing on ROTO-CONTROL displays. ROTO-CONTROL will automatically update track names and colors when connected to an active DAW session. No need to save or edit labels – all data is taken directly from the active session. Unlimited number of tracks can be controlled in Mix Mode, with support for group tracks which can be opened and closed via ROTO-CONTROL.
Plugin parameters and labels are taken directly from Ableton Live, Bitwig Studio and Logic Pro with one touch, one-time, intuitive easy set-up. Learn plug-in parameters once and ROTO-CONTROL will remember mapped parameters anytime you use Ableton Live, Bitwig Studio or Logic Pro. All learnt plugin parameters are stored locally on ROTO-CONTROL, making it quick and easy to use ROTO-CONTROL with any computer setup.
MIX and PLUGIN Modes complement each other with fast intuitive switching between modes. Both modes include full suite of Ableton Live, Bitwig Studio and Logic Pro transport controls.
Control MIDI hardware and software including synths, DAWs, lighting, media applications and any MIDI compatible technology. MIDI Mode can operate stand-alone without a computer.
Motion Recording brings Melbourne Instruments’ motorized knob technology to external gear. Motion Recorder is a creative and fun way to automate and loop MIDI parameters on external hardware and software. Simple one-step record and playback functions.
This is a fantastic product. I wanted to try it out because I am also considering Melbourne's synths with Motorized faders. This control has the motorized pots but it also has the color LED panels, buttons with custom indicator leds. First off, it is dead simple to use. Fantastic interface for the different modes and a well done learn feature. While it has been said that the MIDI mapping mode is the least advantageous, I disagree. The learn mode works well. The Configuration App is really well done and a breeze to use. It offers some great options like being able to customize haptic points in the control pots. You can choose from continuous value with detents or stepped to intervals of your choosing. The buttons allow you to create multi-step toggles, for example, wet/dry mix, make it x number of steps with custom labels rather than a continuous value. If you choose the same midi channel and CC as the pot, the pot will move in sync with the toggled states on the button. And the text is configurable per button toggle step. Example "Delay time" 40 ms, 80 ms, 640ms, .5 s, .75s, 1s etc...." It's so good that you start thinking of how many cool things you can use it for. For example, all my MIDI guitar pedals are now controlled by it. Looking forward to everything this concept can unlock.
