New & Current Vintage King Card Holders
The Josephson E22S side-address cardioid was designed to meet the needs of noted recording engineer Steve Albini. The physical profile allows unobtrusive placement, even with tight percussion layouts. Unique among studio condenser microphones, the e22S capsule geometry is optimized for spot miking performance. The circuit uses a cascode discrete FET front end, combined with a custom Lundahl output transformer. The electronics were designed to interface easily with either transformer or direct coupled mic preamps. The e22S has low self-noise, so it delivers low level detail, and handles high sound pressure levels for minimal distortion on extremely loud passages. The microphone housing is very rugged, with a precision machined, satin black chrome finish.
“The specific need addressed by the e22S was drum kit recording, and the mics are used in that capacity nearly every day, but once they were in our hands, they
quickly became a favorite mic for many instruments, including acoustic guitar, mandolin, banjo, guitar amplifiers, organ and horns. The e22S is easily the most
versatile microphone in our cabinet. On loud sounds like drums and guitar cabinets, the 609 head amplifier delivers a crisp, clear signal that is free of distortion, at a level that doesn't require an external pad.” —Steve Albini

So far it has replaced all other snare drum mics. It captures punchy body and clear transient detail for both hard hitting stick and delicate brushwork. Definitely a winner. Will purchase more over time.
Fantastic mic!
All I can say is you will not regret this purchase. I love it on snare or any drum, acoustic guitar, close mics on piano, and electric guitar to name a few. I really couldn't believe how good this sounded and bought a second one to have a stereo pair. It gives you the body and punch of a large diaphragm and the detail of a small diaphragm. It is one of the most accurate mics I have come across as far as what you put in will come out for acoustic instruments. I am a small time studio owner with just a few all high end mics like the U87 & Royer 121 and I'm glad to add this one. It will get regular use.
Best sdc avail
Absolutely amazing. Tons, snare , hand drums .. world class .

Sorry for the caps, but Im blown away - pricey, but try out three on a set of tom's. Just in your face punch without too much cymbal bleed. Love the side address positioning of the capsule so you can get in tight to the tom without being in the way of the drummer.
