Possibly the most famous mic in the world, the Neumann U47 is worthy of its endless accolades. With its richly detailed, perfectly balanced tone, the U47 has earned its place as the king of microphones. The Heiserman H47tube is our tribute to the king.
Extensive side-by-side comparisons with a highly sought after vintage U47 allowed us to fine tune and dial in the exact components needed to perfectly match the tone. The H47tube sounds so close to the vintage mic that Grammy winning engineers have struggled to tell the two apart.
The Heiserman team of unabashed tone snobs, and when a mic sounds this good, it has to look the part too. From the integrated polar pattern switch to the exact dimensions of the headbasket mesh, this premium handmade mic stands toe-to-toe with any mic that claims the U47 heritage.
Whether you're an experienced pro or new to the U47, you'll appreciate the attention to detail and the premium touches that make the H47tube look and feel as good as it sounds. From top to bottom, it doesn't get any better than this!
The original Neumann U47 was produced over a period of 16 years, during which time there were two different capsules, the K47 and the M7. The Heiserman H47tube is available here with the HK47 capsule. For most people, the HK47 capsule will be the best choice because it provides the most balanced tone, and is equally well suited for vintage and modern productions alike.
Heiserman tested countless transformers, tubes, capacitors, and resistors before settling on the final design of the H47tube. Each of these hand-selected components contributes to the beautiful tone of the H47tube, No expense was spared, ensuring the absolute best performance and sound.
When it comes to microphones, it makes sense to emulate the vintage designs of the past -- they're tried and true, and they've been used on countless hit records. But not everything vintage is worth emulating. Case in point: the case. Why are we still putting expensive mics in wooden boxes with flimsy hinges that couldn't withstand a six inch fall? The H47 Tube ships in a Pelican case with custom molded foam. And it's not just any foam -- it's laser cut, cross-linked polyethylene (i.e. the fancy stuff). It's shockproof, waterproof, and also looks pretty darn good.
I've made 5 albums with this thing. It is the bees knees to the extreme.
I received my H47 Tube after about a month long wait. It was well worth the wait. I have only had it for about a week now and have experimented with it on several sources, including a Martin D-28HD, Collins C45, Kawaii GS70 grand piano, and several other custom built instruments. What is immediately evident when tracking with the H47 is the clarity and presence. It puts everything so in-your-face you feel like you’re standing 8 inches from source. I’m very happy with the purchase and plan on getting another one (or 5) in the near future.
Such an incredible mic! I have access to a vintage U47 that has been regularly serviced and was the top pick in Paul Allen's collection. I used this wonderful vintage U47 on a recent blues vocal project in my studio. In this case, the singer had a voice that really sparkled and had nice forward energy with a U47. (we did lots of shoot outs to pick the mic) After the project was over I felt odd asking to continue to borrow the vintage U47 as I was worried I might damage it and didn't want to overstay my welcome with my good friend who owns the U47. After a bunch of research and asking around to other studios the Heiserman H47Tube came up as a good modern replacement. I took the plunge and ordered one. We have since used this mic on three vocal projects, including recording punch ins for the same blues vocal project with the vintage U47. I can say this thing lives up to the hype. It perfectly subbed in on the blues vocal project agains the original vintage U47 recordings. If anything, I would say myself and the vocalist may slightly prefer the Heiserman on his voice. It is just slightly more open and a tiny bit more air on top. Subtle, but there. With every vocalist I work with I always take time to do a 30 min shoot out of a few mics to find the best one for their voice before we get going. I will say the Heiserman U47Tube and the Soundelux ELUX 251 are usually the two top picks. This is against a Neumann M49, Chandler REDD, SM7, TLM149 typically. Anyway. I could go on and on about this mic. It's wonderful.
