The FLEA Microphones FLEA47 SUPERFET Condenser Microphone features a sound character similar to the 47 tube condenser microphone with all of the benefits of FET technology including better signal to noise ratio and more affordable components. Affordable doesn't mean cheap though as FLEA's construction is comparable with the most expensive microphones. The SUPERFET employs technologies like point-to-point soldering of all sensitive parts, an output transformer with the size and material of the tube version, and a capsule skinned by skilled German technicians.
All contacts and soldering pins are gold plated and the output connector is made by reputable manufacturer, Neutrik. The passive components are meticulously selected and tested before they are used. The complete microphone is manually equipped and wired. The heads are absolutely compatible with the FLEA47 and FLEA48 or original 47 and 48 microphones.
The SUPERFET is amazing on almost everything – vocals, acoustic instruments, and more. As a pair you can employ A/B, X/Y, ORTF stereo techniques. The FLEA47 SUPERFET features both cardioid and omni patterns.
To keep your microphone safe it is shipped with a handmade oak wooden box along with a heavy-duty shock mount.
I have used the Flea 47 (TUBE) a ton and am very familiar with that sound. It was a bit out of my price range, however, so I went with the 47 SUPERFET. After directly comparing it to the tube version at a studio I work at, I determined that the sound was incredibly similar. To my ear, I don't think I would be able to tell the difference in a mix. The tube may have had 3-5% more of that intangible "magic" on a lead vocal, but that slight difference did not warrant the extra cost for my needs. Also, I really love that this mic is very portable compared to the tube. Being able to easily travel with it is a game changer. Hope this helps!
My new favorite 47-style mic. Sounds great, very similar to the Telefunken U47 re-issue, but no tubes, easy to take on the road, sounds great.
