The Rupert Neve Designs MBT Master Bus Transformer is an all-analog, two-channel audio processor for mix buss and mastering applications. It features a high-pass filter shelf EQ for sculpting frequencies with surgical precision, an optical color comp for smooth, musical dynamic control, and stereo width controls to enhance spatial imaging. The new Super Silk circuit design adds rich harmonic saturation, while the Class A signal path delivers studio-grade sound quality.
The high-pass filter shelf EQ is designed for quick and easy tone shaping. Featuring a variable high-pass filter that is sweepable from 20 Hz to 350 Hz, it effectively removes unwanted rumble and tightens the low end without compromising warmth. The two-band shelving equalizer offers up to ±9 dB of boost or cut per band, with gentle slopes and negligible phase shift to ensure a smooth, natural response. Detented LF and HF hinge frequency selectors provide 31 precise options each, allowing you to quickly recall settings.
The optical Color Comp provides flexible dynamic control by way of a custom opto cell. With selectable 2:1 and 5:1 gain reduction ratios, it allows you to choose between subtle, transparent level control and more assertive compression as needed. A variable high-pass sidechain filter, adjustable from 20 Hz to 350 Hz, helps keep low frequencies from pumping, while the integrated Blend control makes it easy to quickly dial in parallel compression. Combining musical gain reduction, versatile filtering, and a handy blend knob, the Master Bus Transformer's Color Comp is versatile studio workhorse for taming transients and gluing mixes together.
Want to expand your stereo image without compromising bottom-end focus? Look no further than the Rupert Neve Designs Master Bus Transformer Width section. Derived from advanced mid-side processing techniques, this section uses an additive-only approach to enhance the spread of mid and high frequencies while keeping the bass centered and defined. A dedicated variable high-pass filter, adjustable between 50 Hz and 800 Hz, enables you to tailor the width effect so that low frequencies remain intact no matter how wide your mix gets. The design also incorporates subtle high-frequency tapering to avoid any harshness or overemphasis, resulting in a natural, immersive sound stage. These controls are perfect for altering the perceived stereo spread your mixes, making your master bus sound larger than life.
The new Super Silk circuit elevates Rupert Neve Designs' legendary harmonic saturation with improved non-linear distortion and odd-order harmonic content. Expanding on the renowned Silk Blue and Silk Red modes, the updated circuit incorporates proprietary Harmonics and Zener Drive controls to deliver unparalleled tonal complexity and warmth. An additional set of transformers drives the circuit’s input, increasing dynamic saturation and allowing for controlled transient clipping. The dedicated Output Trim makes gain staging a breeze, while the variable texture control makes it easy to dial in the perfect amount of subtle warmth with the Blue Silk circuit, or the pronounced grit of Red Silk.
Under the hood, the Master Bus Transformer's Class A signal path and custom output transformers deliver Rupert Neve Designs' signature sound. Whether you're pumping up your mix bus with the opto compressor or mastering with the stereo field editor, the Rupert Neve Designs Master Bus Transformer gives you plenty of dynamic range and headroom, making it an indispensable component in professional audio production. From the input and output amplifiers to the smallest resistors and capacitors, this commitment to signal integrity ensures that your processing remains transparent while adding musical depth and character.
Only have had it for one week. Already used it for mastering as well as drum bus processing. Super great sounding! I like that the controls are well laid out and easy to use. When mastering I have been taking pictures of front panel setting for recall. This box is warm and adds that finished "glue" to my mixes. Compression is transparent. Stereo enhancement is awesome, but should be used sparingly IMHO. Silk functions are icing on the cake. Only thing missing would be a meter on gain reduction, but there is a small LED that indicates that compressor is being hit. I went from using a TC Electronics Finalizer as my master bus processor to this. That's old technology I know LOL! This Neve box is miles better. Only wish I had made this upgrade sooner :)
