In 1973, Eventide Clockworks unveiled the Omnipressor, a studio marvel that pioneered numerous features like dynamic reversal, “lookahead” processing, and side-chain style compression. However, a mixture of supply chain issues and being too ahead of its time led to the Omnipressor’s discontinuation after just a few years—but it nonetheless left a massive impact. 50 years later, the legend continues as the Eventide Omnipressor Model 2830Au, a highly faithful reissue of the original dynamic processor based on the original hand-drawn schematics.
Just like the original unit, the Model 2830Au gives you the power to treat dynamics like its own creative tool. The infinite compressor evens out levels with grace and clarity, while the expander widens them to bold new heights. The noise gate and limiter let you subtly tighten up your signal or create percussive hard-stops, and the lauded dynamic reverser does exactly what it says on the box in true funhouse mirror fashion. These tools are what transformed the sounds of numerous artists way back when—chief among them being Sir Brian May—and now they’re back in full glory for a new generation of creative minds.
Along with these classic features, the 2830Au also introduces several quality-of-life enhancements. With features like fitted input and output audio transformers, more convenient TRS/XLR connectors, a universal power supply, a back-lit meter, and the ability to link multiple units, the Omnipressor reissue is well-equipped for modern setups and workflows.
Built to last another 50 years, the Omnipressor Model 2830Au is here to stay and ready to deliver countless sonic possibilities. Try one out for yourself today to join the long and storied legacy.
It's awesome. I've been hoping for a reissue for a long time and I bought one immediately. I have two favorite snare compressors, and this is one of them. The other is a vintage piece with irreplaceable parts I don't exactly feel like taking a chance on. I mostly use mine for tracking snare (the mix control is super helpful - keeps me from overdoing it!), but it's handled everything I've run through it with aplomb. It's awesome for geting acoustic guitars to hold in place but also bounce a bit. Mix control is useful here, too It's also really good on vocals, sax, aux perc, and violin. It has a reputation as a "mangler" for extreme effects (read: crazy drums), and it can do that, but it's also super transparent and hi-fi when you want it to be. Oh, and it also expands/gates. It's incredibly useful and the price is right!
