Under Review: iLoud Precision 6 MKII Studio Monitors

By Eric Allen

IK Multimedia recently announced its new iLoud Precision MKII Series, which builds on its prior generation of studio monitors with advanced DSP control and next-level accuracy for modern studios. Offering smarter integration, improved build quality, and refined tuning, the MKII series brings a thoughtful update to an already solid lineup.

The iLoud Precision MKII Series arrives in three models: iLoud Precision 5 MKII, iLoud Precision 6 MKII, and iLoud Precision MTM MKII. Just before launch, IK Multimedia sent me a pair of Precision 6 MKII monitors to try out in my home studio. But before diving into setup and first impressions, let’s take a look at what’s new across the entire lineup.

New Features & Updates To IK Multimedia's iLoud Precision MKII Series

Right out of the gate, the iLoud Precision MKII feels like a meaningful refinement of the original series. The standout feature is the on-board ARC X room correction. This latest version not only compensates for room quirks but also includes advanced tuning and speaker emulation options, giving you greater control over your listening environment.

The monitors themselves have also received significant upgrades. IK Multimedia redesigned the cabinet with improved internal bracing and refined HDF construction, reducing resonance and delivering clearer, more focused sound. The tweeter is now reinforced with graphene, providing enhanced detail in the high frequencies. The overall specs are strong too, with a ±1 dB flat response from 45 Hz to 30 kHz, and extended low end that reaches down to 37 Hz (-4 dB).

Let's take a brief look at the feature set of each individual monitor in the iLoud Precision MKII Series:

Unboxing & Setting Up IK Multimedia's iLoud Precision 6 MKII

Slicing open the individual boxes for the pair of iLoud Precision 6 MKII monitors sent to me reveals a neatly packaged and well-organized system. Accessories are carefully arranged in the same spot, making it easy to keep everything in one place so you do not misplace the instructions, accessories, or other essential components during setup.

Outside of the power and USB cables, each monitor comes with a set of four individual iLoud Isolation Pods and an ARC measurement microphone. These thoughtful inclusions make setup easier and show that IK Multimedia put care into the end-user experience. Rather than requiring additional purchases, the company provides everything you need right in the box.

Once the monitors were out of the box and on top of my mix desk, the setup was simple as you would expect. Monitors on top of Isolation Pods, a few switches of some cables, and BAM... iLoud Precision 6 MKII monitors. Setting up and utilizing ARC X warrants its own section, so let's move on.

ARC X Setup With IK Multimedia's iLoud Precision 6 MKII

IK Multimedia is one of many monitor manufacturers bringing room correction and tuning directly to their products. With ARC X software and the standalone ARC Studio unit, they are making this technology more affordable than ever for engineers, music makers, and content creators.

Since ARC X comes with the iLoud Precision MKII Series, I could get started with the acoustic calibration process right away in my home studio. With the software downloaded and the monitors in place, I connected the included ARC measurement mic and began the process.

Custom calibrations can actually be done in two ways—either directly on the monitors or using the ARC X software. The process is extremely simple either way: a few clicks, moving the measurement mic to each position, and staying quiet for a few minutes. And just like that, it’s done.

Including unboxing, setup, registering the monitors, downloading the software, and taking the measurements, I was finished in under 20 minutes. For the uninitiated, taking room measurements might sound intimidating, but IK Multimedia makes the process as easy as possible and the results are impressive and immediate.

Listening To IK Multimedia's iLoud Precision 6 MKII & Using ARC X

Before really listening to the iLoud Precision 6 MKII with room correction engaged, I spent some time exploring the monitors in my studio using tracks I know extremely well. This included my band's most recent release, Shuggie Otis' "Strawberry Letter 23," Roy Ayers' "Everybody Loves the Sunshine," and the eternal monitor-tester classic, Steely Dan's Aja.

My overall impression of the iLoud Precision 6 MKII monitors is that they sounded excellent straight out of the package. In a medium-sized, box-shaped room with light acoustic treatment, they delivered punch and clarity with a great feel. For my home studio, where I’m used to working on monitors in a similar price range, the Precision 6 MKIIs felt like a clear step up from other models I’ve used.

Engaging the ARC X room correction revealed nuances in the tracks I hadn’t noticed on this fresh series of listens in the space. Subtle reverb tails, background textures, and fine transient details became clearer, giving a more complete and revealing picture of each track. The bass was noticeably tighter and more controlled, with less room-induced muddiness, making the overall sound feel more defined and natural.

You could easily spend hours in ARC X, exploring different monitor emulations, voicing options, and more. It’s intuitive, enjoyable, and refreshing on the ears. Whether using the software or the standalone ARC Studio hardware, this is the kind of tool you need to experience in your own space to truly appreciate how it transforms the way you hear your mixes.

Overall, I’m extremely impressed by IK Multimedia’s work with the iLoud Precision 6 MKII. From what I’ve experienced with both the software and hardware, I’d expect the same level of performance across the rest of the series. It takes what could be an intimidating process and makes high-quality room correction and precise monitoring accessible to anyone who wants it.
