Just in time for this year’s AES show, Barefoot Sound has released the new LFE12, a professional 12-inch subwoofer that’s tailor-made to complement the brand’s best-selling Footprint Series studio monitors. Equipped with Barefoot’s patented Dual-Force technology and a powerful 1400 Watt amplifier, the LFE12 delivers accurate, extended low-frequency performance all the way down to 17 Hz. Read on to learn more about the new Barefoot LFE12 subwoofer and how it can enhance your mixing setup.
12-Inch Dual-Force Woofers
At the heart of the LFE12 subwoofer is Barefoot’s signature Dual-Force technology, which uses two opposing 12-inch aluminum-cone woofers that work together to produce powerful low-end. As each woofer moves outward, the other moves in the opposite direction, minimizing cabinet movement and unwanted vibration for more accurate bass response. Thanks to its compact design, the LFE12 delivers the power and low-end of two subwoofers in the size of one.
This innovative design makes the LFE12 the perfect solution for extending the low-end of Barefoot’s Footprint Series studio monitors, including the Footprint01, Footprint02, Footprint03, and Footprint03C. Learn more about Footprint Series studio monitors in our Barefoot Sound Buyer’s Guide.
Unparalleled Power For Stereo, Surround, & Immersive Setups
Under the hood, this compact little sub sports a powerful 1400 Watt amplifier that delivers enough output and low-frequency extension to use the LFE12 as a dedicated LFE channel in surround and immersive monitoring systems.
In fact, the LFE12 features a dedicated LFE input with a selectable 80 Hz / 120 Hz low-pass filter, and a 0 dB / +10 dB gain switch with stepped controls for seamless integration into larger setups.
For traditional stereo mixing setups, the LFE12 features dual BOOST inputs with full-bandwidth THRU outputs. Selectable 60 Hz and 80 Hz BOOST low-pass filter settings make it easy to fine-tune your low-end in different monitoring configurations.

Dual-Switch Footswitch Control
The LFE12 includes a dedicated dual-switch foot controller that remotely engages or mutes LFE MODE for dedicated low-frequency effects, and BOOST MODE for extended bass response. Additionally, both modes can operate simultaneously, with selectable low-pass filters at 80 Hz or 120 Hz for LFE, and 60 Hz or 80 Hz for BOOST.
LFE MODE
Engaging the LFE MODE switch on the footswitch activates the LFE12’s dedicated LFE channel for multichannel, surround, and immersive audio monitoring. The LFE MODE low-pass filter can be set to either 80 Hz or 120 Hz using the rear-panel FILTER SELECT switch, allowing the subwoofer to reproduce low-frequency effects while filtering out higher frequencies. This provides controlled, dedicated low-frequency reproduction for accurate LFE Monitoring.
BOOST MODE
Engaging the BOOST MODE switch on the footswitch activates the LFE12’s low-frequency enhancement channel for stereo monitoring. The BOOST MODE low-pass filter can be set to either 60 Hz or 80 Hz using the rear-panel FILTER SELECT switch, allowing the subwoofer to extend the low-frequency response of your main monitors. This provides smooth, controlled bass integration and additional low-frequency extension for accurate stereo monitoring.
LFE + BOOST MODE
The LFE12 allows LFE and BOOST modes to operate simultaneously, providing independent low-frequency control for stereo, multichannel, surround, and immersive audio monitoring. While LFE MODE reproduces the dedicated low-frequency effects channel, BOOST MODE extends the bass response of the connected left and right stereo monitors. Both modes can be engaged or muted using the footswitch, allowing control over the LFE channel and low-frequency enhancement during monitoring.

Rugged Sealed Cabinet Design
Just like the larger LFE15, the LFE12 uses a sealed cabinet design to enhance rigidity and reduce unwanted resonance. Although it’s fairly compact, the cabinet itself is pretty heavy, which actually helps stabilize the unit for improved performance. Even the paint is designed with performance in mind. Not only does the textured Footprint Gray polyester coating look great, but it also provides a durable, scratch-resistant finish.
