Now, SSL is honoring that legacy with the Revival 4000 channel strip, a 1U rackmount unit that distills the essence of the brand’s legendary B and E Series consoles into a modern format.

SSL’s new Revival 4000 channel strip faithfully recreates the brand’s most celebrated circuits, including the preamp, dynamics section, and 4-band EQ from the original E-Series channel strips, and a one-knob de-esser from the rare 4000 B console.
At the heart of the Revival 4000 is the mic preamp, built around the JT-115K-E Jensen transformer found in original 4000 E Series channels. This design delivers the same unmistakable richness, depth, and clarity as those early SSL desks.
Pulled directly from the compressor/limiter design of the groundbreaking 4000 B console, this De-Esser does more than just tame sibilance. Operating with a 10:1 ratio and a focused 7 kHz sidechain filter, it delivers broadband compression that's musically triggered by harsh frequencies.
The dynamics section represents one of the Revival 4000's most impressive features, faithfully recreating the iconic compressor/gate design that defined the sound of 1980s music. Every component has been meticulously replicated, including the discrete Class A VCA chip and true RMS sidechain detector found in the original E Series channel strips.
The all-discrete gain reduction stage provides the smooth, musical compression that engineers have trusted for decades. Flexible controls allow you to bypass the soft-knee curve, activate a fast attack mode, and choose between logarithmic or linear release curves. This offers a wide range of tone shaping options, from transparent leveling to aggressive, colorful compression.
No 4000 Series channel would be complete without its celebrated EQ, and the Revival 4000 delivers not one, but two iconic options. You can choose between the classic 4000 E "Brown Knob" and the later "Black Knob" (242) EQ developed with Sir George Martin for AIR Studios.
The Brown Knob EQ features two fully parametric mid bands with SSL’s signature symmetrical design for consistent musical intervals, plus shelving high and low bands. The Black Knob option offers wider cut/boost ranges (±18 dB) and a steeper 18 dB/octave high-pass filter for even greater tonal flexibility and tighter low-end control.
