As technology advances and styles change, musicians are always looking for inspiration and new ways to push the limits of their sound. It’s not uncommon to see a guitar player with a mono-synth on stage, same as you might see a keyboard player with a fully loaded pedal board. Luckily for both types of players, the Hologram Electronics Dream Sequence exists as one of the most inventive and feature laden effects of the past 10 years.

At its core, the Dream Sequence is a fully customizable, pattern-based, rhythmic sequencer. It shifts between +/- octaves creating an arpeggio similar to that of a synthesizer. The patterns are spread across User, Factory and Saved presets and can be rhythmically divided, sliced and diced by the 12 Subdivision settings.

You can also record knob movements on the fly, automating the Drive, Tone and Shape controls to add some character and motion to your sequence. It features on-board tap tempo to sync up with a drummer and MIDI I/O to connect and clock your synths, pedals, DAW, etc…

There’s an extensive palette of tone shaping option on the Dream Sequence. The Shape dial is a blend-able waveform from square to sine. This takes your sequence from a tight, percussive note to a blurry, euphoric wash. The Dry Mix blends in your unaffected signal with the sequence. This comes in handy when using the Hold footswitch. Just like on the arpeggiator section of your favorite synth, the “Hold” footswitch will capture your current sequence and loop it over and over again, allowing you to play on top of it. Hologram Electronics have also included an analog Drive section to give your effected signal a touch of warmth and saturation. Distortion, Tone, Pattern Subdivision, and Tempo are all fully controllable via an expression pedal.
