The BAE 312A is a world-class preamp that combines a capacitor-free circuit with high-quality Jensen transformers and BAE’s proprietary 2015 op-amp for a fast, punchy sound. Perfect for recording drums and fattening up bass DI tracks, the BAE 312A delivers a thick, rich tone with crisp, clear transients.
HIGH-END COMPONENTS
The BAE 312A preamp is hand-wired using high-quality components to ensure world-class tone. Hearty Jensen transformers at the input and output stages are perfect for adding warmth to any instrument. The capacitor-free signal path easily allows transients to pass through for punchy, percussive recordings. BAE’s custom built discrete 2015 op-amp provides a clean, transparent sound that takes well to EQ and dynamics processing.
SIMPLE CONTROLS
The BAE 312A features an intuitive design with easy-to-use controls. A large, rugged dial controls gain settings, offering an impressive 66 dB of gain. The mic/instrument switch allows you to toggle between the microphone and high-impedance line level input on the front panel for recording direct instrument signals. The pad button reduces input gain for recording particularly loud instruments like heavy-hitting drummers or roaring guitar amps. The phase reversal button inverts the phase of a signal—perfect for recording snare bottom mics! The 48 V button provides phantom power for condenser microphones.
QUALITY CONSTRUCTION
The BAE 312A includes a remote power supply with a four-foot cable, making it easy to mount anywhere in your studio. BAE’s custom power supplies are capable of delivering four times the current required by the preamps for optimum sound quality. The BAE 312A features easy-access XLR input and outputs on the back for connecting microphones and other devices, as well as a high-quality instrument on the front for connecting guitars and synthesizers. Even the switches on the BAE 312A are high quality with gold contacts to ensure they last a lifetime.

Just finished a track where all we used was the BAE 312s. From Bass, to Drums, to Vocals to Acoustics to Electrics and more it excelled with a natural open and punchy tone. In some cases there was no need for compression while tracking - they even made a pair of bongos sound great wiht a Shure Beta 58!!! Now that is something!!! In short, just wanted to say that I am digging the BAE 312As - Thanks VK!!!

The roots of BAE Audio were planted back in the 1980s with the original Brent Averill Enterprises. It began with a focus on repairing and racking original Neve and API modules to bring the sound of a full mixing board into rack-mounted gear that could fit into any studio workflow. As the business evolved, Brent began replicating the original designs to the nth degree, using original spec components from OEM manufacturers (particularly the transformers) and wiring these all-discrete designs by hand. A reputation for build quality and sonic excellence was established that continues to this day.
In the late ‘90s, Brent decided to retire. Enter Mark Loughman, a tech at the firm who decided to buy the business and continue the excellence. He renamed it BAE, a nod to both the original name and an acronym for British Audio Engineering, which was and still is the focus of the sonic signature created by BAE products.
