The Avid Pro Tools Dock Control Surface is based off the advanced touchscreen workflows on the Master Touch Module from the award-winning Pro Tools | S6. Both of these systems demonstrate that mixers need the best physical faders, knobs, and switches in addition to its touchscreen technology for things like fast navigation, metering, and the on-screen plug-in control – a true hybrid approach. And, like other DAWs, when the Dock is paired with the Pro Tools | S3, you gain complementary and enhanced functionality with its dedicated automation switches, color-coded Soft Key switches, weighted aluminum jog wheel, transport controls, and more. Your mixing deadlines have met their match!
The Dock’s eight soft knobs are used to effortlessly control parameters like EQ, Panning, Dynamics, and Sends on the Attentioned (or focused) channel – the S6 Master Touch Module. ‘Attentioning’ a track is as simple as touching the track tile on the screen and the Dock brings it to the fader. Avid’s new ‘super’ Channel view on Pro Tools | Control is unlocked when using the Dock or S3.
Avid Dock now supports EUCON technology, providing unmatched hardware and software integration, native touch, and tactile control of a large range of audio and video software alike. Experience the deepest level of control and integration with any Pro Tools and Pro Tools | Ultimate. In addition, you get exceptional control of the Logic Pro X, Premiere Pro, Cubase, Nuendo, Samplitude, Digital Performer, and other EUCON-enabled DAWs. Because the Avid Pro Tools Dock is EUCON-aware, it will automatically switch its controls to the application in focus on your device. Adversely, you can lock down sections of the surface to specific programs for multi-application control.
The two rows of LED color-coded buttons you see on the Avid Pro Tools Dock below the screen can change colors and will map to the Soft Keys in the small view on your iPad. This helps line it up directly underneath the matching soft button on screen. The Dock Control Surface can work with an iPad (sold separately) and pairs with the Avid S3 as mentioned above to offer a powerful, ergonomic, and integrated editing and mixing system for under $6,200.

This thing is fantastic. It wasn't until I bought the Avid S1 that I realized how useable and flexible EUCON can be for us non Pro Tools users. As long as your DAW supports EUCON you can set the mountains of buttons and controls on the Dock to do whatever you'd like. Doing so in Digital Performer has sped up and smoothed out my workflow as a game music composer considerably! Everythng from easy commands to full-on mega macros can be assigned to the keys. And the soft keys with corresponding graphics on the tablet are among my favorites -- literally anything you'd like to set up to make your work easier can be set to these keys and it looks super cool to boot.
My only complaint is that the iPad doesn’t just plug into the Dock. Well it does but only for power, it takes another cable to connect it to a network. Using the Control app over wifi is latent and prone to dropouts, while plugging it into a network makes it fast and bulletproof. It takes me 4 adaptors and 3 cables to hook both the Dock and Control app up to my MacBook Pro. Other than that I love it!
Whoa! I love my Dock. I use it in ways I didn't think I would. I've now mixed a chunk of songs without even touching the mouse!
