I was lucky enough to have grown up in Bakersfield CA owning a tascam 8 track real to real set up and doing demos and small releases for our local musicians, Punk Rock, Metal, Death Rock/Goth, Glam, Speed Metal/Crossover, Cow Punk, and so on. Coming into the 90s I got a 16 track machine and I was on top of the underground food chain in my city. Then it became Increasingly harder and more expensive to get the Tape Pre-internet. I did this for fun and not a business. I didn’t it so I could record and it not cost me anything. Well I could never get the sound I wanted using the early incarnations of digital recordings and it was so expensive on top of things. I left it all behind. Fast forward to now. Pro-tools has came a long way and it’s so close and for a guy like me, it’s so much easier to use. But it will never have that real Punk Rock sound that a real tape machine has. The depth, the Vibe, the Mistakes, the Energy and so on. I get the long lost sound using ATR Magnetics tape. More and more the younger kids are trying to recreate the sound and vibe of what we did in the early 80s and the only way to get that sound is TAPE. ATR Magnetics makes it possible with the worry of using old or used tape. I don’t have to worry about gunk on my tape heads. You get a A++++ from me.
