  1. Vintage King Workflow: Beau Burchell

    Vintage King Workflow: Beau Burchell
While Beau Burchell is prominently known for being the founder and guitarist of Saosin, the Orange County native has also been working as a producer and engineer for nearly his entire music career. He's produced and mixed many punk and post-hardcore classics including The Bronx' self-titled debut, The Bled's Pass The Flask, and If There Is Light, It Will Find You from Senses Fail. When deciding where to build-out his next studio space, Beau opted for the confines of his home garage. The room is a truly a swiss army knife for recording and mixing, as it features an amp wall, drum kit, buildable vocal booth with descending top, and a rig centered around the Antelope Audio Orion 32 HD Gen 3 interface. 2. Vintage King Workflow: Jim Kaufman

    Vintage King Workflow: Jim Kaufman
In our Vintage King Workflow series, we enter the studios of audio creators to learn about the gear that is essential to their process. For Santa Monica-based producer and mix engineer Jim Kaufman (Anti-Flag / Beware of Darkness), the world-class conversion and summing power of Burl Audio have had the biggest impact on his output. "I was never happy with the conversion that I had before. Navon [Weisberg] at Vintage King told me about the Burl stuff," says Jim. "I knew Dave Cobb was using it, Dave and I have the same manager, and I love Dave's records. So I went in and I got the Mothership and it was amazing." Continue reading →
  3. Vintage King Workflow: Needlz

    Vintage King Workflow: Needlz
For Needlz, the creation of music has always centered on finding new sounds that intrigue him. Whether by way of a snare hit, synth melody or sample, the world has provided plenty of inspiration for the Atlanta-based music maker. He's written and produced multi-million-selling records for the likes of Bruno Mars, Cardi B, G-Unit, Lupe Fiasco, and countless others. In order to capture his song sketches in the moment and turn them into hits, Needlz has relied on Universal Audio's Apollo audio interface series for as long as he can remember. "I started with the silver one and I've gotten each new version since," Needlz says from the confines of Dry Rain Studio. "Now I've got two Apollo x16s in my set-up, which gives me 32 channels to work with." Continue reading →

    Vintage King Workflow: Maxton Waller
We all have different approaches to our craft, whether it be our gear preferences or unique techniques for tracking, mixing, and mastering. In our new series, Vintage King Workflow, we're celebrating the beauty of how our favorite engineers and producers create art and asking them to show us their methods. Maxton Waller was playing in rock bands when he first moved to California in 2007, but quickly transitioned full-time into composing for film and television. This was my first experience buying something from Vintage King (although I surf the "used" categories on the website frequently!), and, despite being on the other side of the world, I had absolutely no trouble and everything went very smoothly.
