Wunder Audio CM50 – No Longer Available

Sublime remake of the classic M50 large diaphragm tube condenser with spherical capsule
MFR# CM50

Product Description

The Wunder Audio CM50 Tube Microphone comes with a small omnidirectional transducer mounted on a 40 mm diameter Lucite sphere. "Simply one of the most wonderful sounding room mics in the world," the CM50 represents the pinnacle of quality in a revered line of microphones that stretches back to the very earliest days of pro audio. The inspiration is classic, the execution is cutting-edge. We have successfully recreated the small pressure transducer (similar to the capsule for the KM series microphones).

Sonic footprint of the CM50:
This unique capsule creates a gradual "presence rise" in the microphone's on-axis frequency response. Yielding a rather substantial 8 dB on-axis peak at high frequencies. This affect can be discerned in the midrange and more increasingly so at higher frequencies. There is relatively no effect at low frequencies since the sphere is smaller than low frequency wavelengths.

These effects enable the CM50 to be placed at considerably greater distances from the sound source than regular omni mics thus picking up more ambiance in the lows and midrange while maintaining focus in the "air" region and at higher frequencies. The result is a stunningly clear recording ordinarily not possible at these distances.

The CM 50 can be placed far enough from the source that the distances to the nearest and farthest instruments will be perceived exactly as an audience experiences them, where the relative loudness, arrival time and the clarity of the instruments will be in precise balance with each other.

Package includes:

  • CM50 microphone
  • Plush oak box
  • Yoke mount

"The CM50s are stunning. The high end is clear and clean with an effortlessness that other mics can only dream of. I am thinking here of this and that from the land of Prince Hamlet and the "100K" mics from the land of the rising sun. The reach is spooky and the complete lack of low-mid woof-woof trickery coupled with full low-end extension is a revelation. Wonderful mics that I only begun to explore."

I had two Grammy wins this year - Ray LaMontagne & Carolina Chocolate Drops. Both made with help from Vintage King!

In almost 20 years in Pro audio buying, never did I receive a unit so well packed and exactly as described. Works flawlessly. The whole process has been so smooth. I will never hesitate to do business with you guys in the future and will recommend you to everyone I know.

This was my first experience buying something from Vintage King (although I surf the "used" categories on the website frequently!), and, despite being on the other side of the world, I had absolutely no trouble and everything went very smoothly.
