White Instruments Paramedic+ XLR Digital Parametric EQ
Two-channel digital parametric EQ with delay on both channels and XLR input/output connectors
MFR# Paramedic+ XLR
Product Description
The ParaMedic+ represents the latest technology in digital signal processing engines and offers remarkably higher performance at drastically reduced costs when compared to the last generation. The processing power of a ParaMedic is approximately 4 times that of our 5000 Series DSPs at about half the price. These new processors combine the advantages of a pair of one-third octave or one (1) one-sixth octave graphic equalizers, but you only invoke the filters you need. Add to that the flexibility of two channels of parametric equalizers to surgically remove feedback and room ringing. Band limit the system with high-pass and low-pass filters and subjectively add shelving. A digital delay is available on both outputs with up to 344mS delay per channel, adjustable in 0.021mS steps. Some applications will require the isolation input and output transformers that are built into the ParaMedic+ -T model.
The ParaMedic has no front panel controls for economy and security. All set-up and operating functions are conducted from a PC running Windows 95/98/NT4 and White Windows 2 software. The computer/DSP link is generic RS-232 requiring only an industry standard cable. No outboard interface boxes are required. Programmed presets can be instantly recalled from a dry contact closure. A convenient data connector is placed on the front panel and paralleled to the rear panel. Up to 250 ParaMedics can be daisy-chained and controlled from one PC.
The Filters: White Instruments has manufactured filters of all kinds for over forty-five years from a book of transfer functions that was closed in the mid 1930’s. Our reputation for manufacturing audio filters that sound good and industrial filters that work is no accident. The secret is having the experience to select the appropriate transfer function and circuit topology for the task, then rendering the filter with a great deal of attention to craftsmanship and detail. This tradition is carried to our digital implementations.
Pre-built files help create one-third or one-sixth octave filters on standard ISO frequency centers. All filters are adjusted in 1Hz steps and can be generated between 20Hz and 20kHz. Parametric filters have a response of -70 to +12dB in 0.1dB steps and can be as narrow as 1/70 octave or as broad as 2 octaves. High-Pass and Low-Pass filters can have responses from 6 to 48dB per octave, adjusted in 6dB per octave steps. High and Low Shelving filters have a fixed response of 6dB per octave.
