The Mellotron M4000D is a digital reimagining of the classic 1960s tape-based keyboard used by influential artists ranging from The Beatles and Pink Floyd to Queens of the Stone Age and Bruno Mars. With 100 Mellotron and Chamberlin sounds captured from the original tape sources, plus room for 100 additional sound banks, you'll never run out of inspiration. Blend two patches with the Mix knob, adjust playback speed and pitch for unique effects, and sculpt your tone with Bass and Treble controls. The Mellotron M4000D features depth-sensitive keys with polyphonic aftertouch support, MIDI In/Out/Thru, and inputs for a variety of expression controllers, volume pedals, and footswitches. Combining classic sounds and modern flexibility in a vintage-inspired chassis that feels great to play, the digital Mellotron M4000D is the ultimate way to get the sound of this iconic tape-based machine.
The Mellotron M4000D comes pre-loaded with 100 instantly recognizable sounds captured directly from the original Mellotron and Chamberlin tape libraries. Choose from classic strings, flutes, brass, choir, and many more obscure patches, all featuring authentic tape saturation and the unique attack and decay characteristics of the original Mellotron and Chamberlin. The audio engine reproduces each sample using advanced, uncompressed 24-bit streaming technology, giving you the full warmth and detail of vintage tape without any of the drawbacks such as pitch instability or wear and tear.
A front-panel slot allows you to load an additional 100 sounds from Mellotron digital Sound Cards. Mellotron currently offers eight Sound Cards on special Compact Flash cards, giving you a total of 800 additional patches to expand your sonic palette for performing and recording. Swapping cards is simple: just insert the card into the keyboard's front-panel slot, use one of two high-quality TFT displays to select the desired sounds, and play. This modular approach allows you to easily equip your Mellotron digital keyboard for different sessions: load rare orchestral patches for film scoring, drum loops for electronic sets, or world instruments for experimental textures.
A big part of the Mellotron's sound comes from the ability to blend different instruments, adjust the playback speed and pitch, and shape the output with the Tone control. The Mellotron M4000D gives you all the same options and more: the dedicated Mix knob lets you blend sounds more precisely than ever, playback speed can be set to normal or half speed, and the pitch adjustment is a separate control. The single-knob Tone control affects the overall bass and treble balance, and all controls are located on the left side for easy access, making your performances more expressive with on-the-fly adjustments.
The Mellotron M4000D features balanced XLR and unbalanced 1/4" jacks for the master output as well as A Direct and B Direct outputs that allow you to record each layer individually, pan them in stereo, or add effects. Gold-plated connectors ensure low-noise performance and long-term reliability, so your Mellotron M4000D will sound great even when it's as old as the original. A dedicated stereo headphone output allows you to monitor the main output at any time, practice silently, or send an extra output to your DAW or live rig for greater flexibility.
Four 1/4" jacks on the rear panel accept two expression pedals, a sustain pedal, and a volume pedal, giving you real-time control over your sound, including effects parameters like delay and echo. Five-pin MIDI In, Out, and Thru jacks allow you to integrate the Mellotron M4000D with a variety of MIDI equipment for recording and live performance, including polyphonic aftertouch data from the keyboard. This impressive connectivity turns the Mellotron M4000D into an extremely capable instrument both on stage and in the studio.
