The 2-LA-2 is not an exact component clone of the classic LA-2A, but a feature-enhanced stereo evolution of its ancestor that elegantly combines two channels of silky, tube-amplified, stereo matched optical gain reduction in one unit. Like its ancestor, the 2-LA-2 works by applying the audio signal to an electro-luminescent light panel which shines on a photo-electric cell which in turn controls the gain. Designed by original UREI engineer Dennis Fink, the 2-LA-2 retains the core "sonic signature" components that made the LA-2A the studio standard compressor in recording studios around the world. The 2-LA-2 uses only the finest audiophile quality parts, from metal film resistors and WIMA capacitors to custom UA input and output transformers.
