The UnderToneAudio UTEQ500 equalizer allows you to recreate the shape and EQ curve of almost any hardware EQ ever made. With highly accurate band-shaping technology packed into a compact 500 Series unit, the UTEQ500 makes the astounding versatility found in UTA’s console EQ and MPEQ-1 channel strip more accessible than ever.
The UTEQ500 sports dual concentric potentiometers across three bands, giving you plenty of versatility in minimal real estate. The lower knob lets you select which frequencies to adjust, and the upper knob widens or narrows your band’s Q range—a simple control scheme with a massive range of potential tones in store.
The defining feature of the UTEQ500 is the Shape knob, the key behind its chameleon-like flexibility. The control sounds simple enough on paper: It lets you blend between peak and shelf-type shapes for each of your frequency bands. But in practice, you can accurately and easily recreate every shape, curve, and quirk of almost any 3-band EQ on the market. Want the scooped-mids sound of classic tube EQs? No problem. A British-style shelf with that quintessential undershoot at the bottom? Easy. A new EQ curve like no other? That can be done too!
Along with a Boost and Cut mode, the UTEQ500 also offers a Notch mode for even more tonal variety. This mode not only lets you notch out a desired frequency, but turning the Gain control to 10 reverses the phase of that frequency. This selective phasing—coined “Vari-Phase” by UnderToneAudio—is perfect for blending multiple inputs on a single source, allowing you to flip the phase in only the select frequency range to craft the perfect sound.
