MFR# 80B-500 Mic Preamp

Product Description

The Trident 80B-PRE 500 Series Preamp is the perfect solution for those seeking the legendary sound of the Trident Series 80B console in the 500 Series Format. With a Lundahl transformer-coupled microphone preamp and electronically balanced line input, the preamp boasts a wide frequencey range and accommodates a variety of signal levels with ease. Additionally, a high-quality Lundahl output transformer ensures exceptional sound quality. With its LED meter display, the 80B-500 Series Preamp is an essential tool for any recording studio.

FAITHFUL RECREATION OF THE LEGENDARY TRIDENT SERIES 80B CONSOLE PREAMP

The 80B-500 Series Preamp features a unique design that can handle signal levels from -60 dBu to as high as +15 dBu without the need for a separate pad switch. Its smooth gain adjustment, particularly at high signal levels, sets it apart from other designs that tend to have a cramped level adjustment at the end of the control. And with near-theoretical minimum noise figures and an extremely fast transient response, you can be confident that your recordings will be crystal-clear and distortion-free.

With a frequency response that extends to above 40 kHz, the 80B-500 Series Preamp is perfect for use with high-quality condenser microphones. But it also brings out the best in dynamic and ribbon microphones, thanks to its high gain and low noise. This is particularly useful when working with ribbon microphones, which often have an inherently low output level.

In addition to its unique design, the 80B-500 Series Preamp also includes a range of features that make it an indispensable tool for recording engineers and home studio enthusiasts. These features include a high-quality transformer-coupled microphone amplifier, 48-volt switchable Phantom Power, a high-quality Output transformer, an electronically balanced Line Input amplifier, separate Microphone & Line level controls, a front-facing (Hi Z) ¼” Line Input, a variable Low Pass Filter (LPF), a variable High Pass Filter (HPF), a switchable Phase control (Polarity), and an Output meter LED display.

CLASSIC SOUND IN A MODERN, CONVENIENT FORMAT

The Series 80B-500 Preamp is derived from the legendary Series 80B Consoles designed by Trident Audio Developments in the late 1970’s. It incorporates an exact replica of the preamp design that gave the original console its unique sound. These consoles have been used to record just about every major artist in the past three decades, including Elton John, Dire Straits, David Bowie, Rod Stewart and Stevie Wonder to name but a few. More recently they have been used to record artists such as Radiohead and Pavarotti.

The Trident Audio Developments Series 80B-500 Preamp brings a historic pedigree and is offered at a price that is now affordable to all studios and home recorders.

THE SOUND AND THE CIRCUITRY OF THE CONSOLES USED TO RECORD COUNTLESS HITS

In the late ’70s Trident Audio developed a new series of recording consoles to update Trident’s sound for a new generation of musical talent. The result was the Trident Series 80, the sound of which quickly became a favorite among the top artists. The Series 80B doesn’t just capture the sound of these legendary consoles, it is the exact same painstakingly re-created circuitry.

The Series 80B-500 Preamp is one of Trident’s most sought microphone preamps. Loaded with transformers and a HiZ front input, the Series 80B Preamp is the classic sound of the consoles.

This was my first experience buying something from Vintage King (although I surf the "used" categories on the website frequently!), and, despite being on the other side of the world, I had absolutely no trouble and everything went very smoothly.
