Trident has brought the great sound of the 80B EQ, a sound featured in so many classic 70s rock recordings, to a 500 Series module - the Trident 80B EQ 500.
Operating the EQ:
Inspired by the legendary Trident Series 80 console, the Trident 80B 500 Series EQ puts the sound of countless classic recordings right in your 500 series rack. With frequency-switchable high and low shelving bands, two sweepable midrange bands with resonant Q peaks, and a switchable high-pass filter, the 80B Series 500 EQ gives you an exceptional degree of control over your sound.
The Series 80B 500 EQ is equipped with two bands of versatile shelving EQ. The low band offers ±15 dB at 60 or 120 Hz for making your kick drums knock and your bass guitars thunder. Keep your low end in check with a switchable 50 Hz high-pass filter. Add brilliance and air to your recordings with the high band, which offers ±15 dB at 8 kHz or 12 kHz — perfect for acoustic guitars and cymbals.
Equipped with two variable midrange bands, the Series 80B 500 EQ captures the classic punchy color and character of the original Series 80 console EQs. Both the low mid and high mid bands are peaking filters with resonant Q technology for an exceptional musicality. With overlapping frequency ranges from 100 Hz - 1.5 kHz on the low mid-band and 1 kHz - 15 kHz on the high mid-band, the Series 80B 500 EQ offers plenty of flexibility for sculpting crucial midrange frequencies.
The Series 80B 500 EQ captures the unique sound of Trident’s iconic Series 80B consoles from the late 1970s by using an exact replica of the original circuit design. Known for their powerful low-end and punchy midrange, the Series 80B EQs have used by world-class artists such as Elton John, David Bowie, Stevie Wonder, Radiohead and more.

Great sounding 500 series EQ.
Amazing EQ, lot of character, I am using on toms and I love it.
People note this as being a clean EQ, and it is clean, but not sterile. I find it has a certain silkiness to it that I love. I can crank the High Mids on vox, and maybe remove a bit of Low Mid proximity effect, and it always does what I need in quick fashion. That kind of dependability definitely aids in my confidence and a fast work flow. This unit boxes above it's price class! As another reviewer noted, if they made a Rev B, I'd love a sweep-able high pass filter, but what's there is definitely still useful.
5 stars due to the price point and what this eq can do. This is a FANTASTIC tracking eq. The eq points cover a wide range of uses. Clean eq, get your color from eq or comp, and also watch gain staging as this eq doesn’t have an output control. Well built sounds great, great price.
Simply Amazing. I've owned many other 500 series EQ's, yet these are the most responsive silky EQ's I have owned. I use them on just about everything, but especially on kick, snare, vocals and guitars. They really break through a mix nicely. Other EQ's at this or near this price point just did not deliver. I love them so much I ordered another pair. They are THAT GOOD!
Love the sound of this eq!
Vintage sound and feel, very happy with my purchase.
Have not had it for long, but its been great so far.
This is a great unit! I'm a voice actor, so my primary application of this has been on my vocal recording chain - currently using it to tame a little bit of small booth bass resonance and roll off just a bit of the high end on my MKH 416, which can be a little sharp. This does the job very well, the bands are wide enough that they are great for minor "broad strokes" tweaks like I'm doing and between all 4 bands you can very easily tweak what you want to tweak! The sound is very subtle and pleasant. I think my only complaint would be the fixed two high and low shelving frequencies, but they're placed in good spots and are totally usable for most cases.
