The Tiptop Audio Buchla 296t module replicates Don Buchla's original Programmable Spectral Processor Model 296 featuring the same complex filtering, envelope following, vocoding, and more. 16 fixed-frequency filters all use the same inputs with three audio output sections.
The three audio output sections are Comb Filter Outputs, Attenuator Outputs, and Programmed Outputs. Comb Filter Outputs provide a sum of the odd and even filter bands. The Attenuator Outputs are used with the front-panel level control sliders providing summed outputs of all the bands and the odd/even bands as groups. Programmed Outputs (even, odd, all) are controlled by the Program Control, Programmed Spectrum Transfer, and Local Program CV controls.
The Program Control's frequency and width controls allow for focussing on specific frequency ranges at the Programmed Outputs with the option of voltage control. The Local Program Inputs are voltage control inputs for closer control of the level of each individual band at the Programmed Outputs. With the Programmed Spectrum Transfer you can connect the envelope follower outputs from the odd bands to the even bands' CV inputs. Used in conjunction with the Even and Odd audio inputs and outputs, this creates vocoder-like behavior.
Welcome to the Buchla & Tiptop Audio 200 series project. In this project Buchla has teamed up with Tiptop Audio to resume the production of Don Buchla’s 200 series and convert it to Eurorack standards. These extremely rare pieces of equipment made almost half a century ago are once again available, and this time to a wide audience.
