New & Current Vintage King Card Holders
The new Mic Shop MS47 Mark II is a future proof design using no endangered tubes or other parts. The E81CC (aka 12AT7, ECC81) can be easily found and various NOS versions can be used if preferred. The circuit is proprietary and unlike other more common designs. It yields lower noise, distortion, and output impedance than garden variety tube circuits. All components have been chosen by ear. Previously, Mic Shop microphones have been produced in very small numbers, and most are owned by a select few of Nashville and the world's finest studios, artists, engineers, and producers. The Mark II design exceeds the performance of the EF14 design and enables production a greater number of consistent high quality microphones.

compares well with my vintage 67 with a slightly different flavor. slightly more texture and present, while the 67 is more rounded and sits in the track with less fuss. MS47 Mark II falls into the "highly recommended" category.
Disclaimer: I have used the MS-47 Mk I extensively, though I have yet to use the Mk II.
The MS47 is a microphone of the highest caliber; build quality and sonic performance are both exemplary. This is about as close as one can get to the tone of an excellent-condition vintage U47 (before the old PVC M7 dries out and the high end rolls off), and I've tried many of the clones. I've used the MS47 on male vocals, brass, woodwinds and acoustic string instruments, and I loved it on all.
The guys at The Mic Shop are two of the most persnickety microphone geeks on the planet, and I mean that in the best possible way. If this microphone wasn't THAT close to an original 47, they wouldn't let it out into the wild.
Background: I am an audio educator and I've made sure that each of my two previous employers have purchased an MS47, and I've baked a Mk II into the budget for the new facility at my current employer. And once I pay off a few other items, I REALLY want to get one for myself!
Oh, and I also appreciate that it's built by actual human beings in Franklin, TN.
