Manufacturer’s Description:
AWSomation™ is a fully featured package, developed from SSL's renowned G and K Series Ulitmation systems, but with an enhanced feature set designed specifically for the AWS 900. AWSomation™ utilizes the classic SSL look and feel, familiar to thousands of engineers worldwide, to add dynamic fader and cut automation to the console. MTC (MIDI Time Code) serves as the mix timeline reference together with support for MMC (MIDI Machine Control) locate commands to follow non-play speed positional changes from the DAW. Use of System Exclusive MIDI data transfer allowes mixes to be saved to a workstation or Sys-Ex librarian, retaining the integrity of the project data.
AWSomation™ provides the AWS 900 with the additional flexibility to act as a standalone automated console, or as an automated analogue console working alongside the workstation's automation system.
MOFF
MOFF - Motors Off, will switch faders into the legacy VCA style automation systems, switching fader motors off. This style of automation will be familiar to the thousands of engineers worldwide that have used SSL's legendary Ultimation automation systems. Many Engineers prefer this method as they are not distracted by fades moving under the control of automation. Its main uses are for Trim and Join. In trim, Motors Off allows the user to choose a null point and know exactly how much the faders are trimmed. For Join, the intended fader value can be prepared in Motors Off, so that when reply commences, it will not return to its replay position, but will allow you to drop in at any point using Join.
Snap Mode
Snap Mode enables the user to make quick changes to automation, without having to press the fader status button to drop in and out of write mode. The fader is touched to put it into write, and when released it will drop out of record and snap back to its replay position.
AutoTakeover
To avoid a jump in level when dropping out of write, AutoTakeover Mode can be used. When the fader is 'dropped out', it continues to write its position to the mix, but there will be an indication using the LEDs next to the fader status switch of which way to move the fader to match it with its original position. As soon as the fader's physical position matches the replayed automation, the fader will automatically drop out of write.
Revert
Revert can be used to toggle quickly between the current Mix Pass, and a previous Mix Pass. This allows the user to audition between two Mix Passes quickly, while the song is playing, helping selection of the best mix.
Trim
Trim mode allows you to update fader data from a previous mix pass, by using the fader to add or subtract level to/from existing moves. It achieves this by setting up a 'null' fader position and then any subsequent moves trim the existing data by the amount of positive or negative change from the null position. If using in Motors Off mode, this increase/decrease can be made before dropping into Trim via the fader status switch, allowing for quick punch ins and outs of level change. Trim data must be merged with the absolute Mix Pass it affects before additional trims can be written.
Fader links
Fader links allow the user to group faders, cuts, solos and fader status switches without the complications of master/slave style grouping systems. These links can be suspended individually or globally.
Match 'n' Play™
CUT data is stored regardless of the current fader status, unless the channel safe mode is enabled. Cut automation is updated using the Match 'n' Play™ method. Match followed by the CUT switch drops the channel into write without changing the current state of the channel CUT. Play followed by the CUT switch returns the channel to replaying the automation data. The CUT switches have momentary action so that instead of flipping the state of the CUT function, it toggles the Automation read/write state.
Copy and Swap
Copy and Swap are used to duplicate or interchange mix data between channels with ease. Simply select the function required then the source and destination channels via the status keys.
