The Spectra 1964 STX 500 is a painstakingly accurate recreation of the classic Model 500 two-band passive equalizer, custom designed to compliment the new STX 100 preamp. Known for its silky smooth highs and deep, rich lows, the STX 500 offers classic tone in a compact, affordable package.
Equipped with two bands of selectable shelving EQ, the STX 500 is perfect for quickly adding brilliant, sparkling high-end or thick, boomy low-end. Each band offers four fixed frequency selections with up to 12 dB of boost or cut in stepped 2 dB increments for lightning-fast recalls. Choose from 2.5 kHz, 5 kHz, 10 kHz or 15 kHz on the high band, and 50 Hz, 100 Hz, 200 Hz or 15 kHz on the low band. Each slope is custom-tuned to match the shape of the original unit for an instantly classic sound.
The STX 500 is designed to compliment the STX 100 preamp. When paired together, the passive STX 500 becomes the active feedback element of the STX 100 amplifier for unparalleled versatility. And since both units utilize Spectra’s innovative design, there’s zero signal loss and immeasurably low distortion when boosting or cutting.
Found in legendary studios like Stax, Ardent, the Record Plant and more, Spectra recording desks were used to record some of the most influential albums of all time. For over 40 years, the Spectra sound has made its way onto countless hit records, including John Lennon’s Imagine, Bruce Springsteen’s Born to Run, Aerosmith’s Toys in the Attic and more.
Now you can bring your tracks to life with the same classic sound. Dial in thick kicks, beefy basses and powerful vocals with the tight, punchy low band. Or use the high band to add brilliance and shimmer to acoustic instruments like drums, guitars and vocals.
Excellent eq. Remember the frequencies are fixed (not a parametric) but very musical. The Phase accuracy is amazing and when you go for 5k for electric it just moves the tone forward not getting brittle. Low end is accurate and controllable punch capability.
