The Soyuz 1973 is a modern microphone with vintage vibes that brings together the best of the first generation of FET mics with modern machining and design advancements. This Deluxe edition features a streamlined body and the same S23 capsule as the 023 Bomblet along with a handmade oak suitcase, a custom hand-machined shock mount and a custom hard mount. Combining vintage vibe and handmade quality with modern components, the Soyuz 1973 delivers extraordinarily clean yet musical tone in a compact and affordable package. A classic capsule with modern updates gives this mic its smooth, full-range sound, while the transformerless FET design ensures ultra-quiet operation. Premium components and robust build quality mean the 1973 can stand up to being your go-to mic, day in and day out.
The microphone features an updated version of the Soyuz S23 capsule from the company’s popular 023 Bomblet microphone, which itself is derived from the classic AKG C12 capsule. Three backplates give the capsule increased sonic consistency, while a new custom-machined resonator reduces unwanted resonance and helps mitigate distortion from plosives for excellent vocal capture. The resulting sound is present in the midrange without sounding “boxy,” open and airy in the top-end and gently rounded on the low-end, making the Soyuz 1973 an excellent all-rounder capable of bringing out the detail and nuance of any sound source.
The mic’s FET circuitry and transformerless design provide an extremely clean signal path with the lowest self-noise of any Soyuz mic to date. This allows you to capture soft vocals, acoustic instruments and other quiet sources with unmatched clarity. Additionally, a switch on the bottom of the mic engages a -10 or -20 dB pad, allowing you to record louder sources like drums and amplifiers without distortion. With a maximum SPL limit of 140 dB, this mic handles almost any sound source with ease.
Designed with great attention to detail and hand-machined by skilled technicians, the Soyuz 1973 cuts no corners. The build quality is solid enough for regular use in the studio, yet the mic is extremely lightweight, weighing in at just 300 grams. An elegantly simple design and minimal components make for a compact microphone that’s easy to position wherever you need it.
