New & Current Vintage King Card Holders
Inspired by the original “sound of tomorrow 67”, the Soundelux USA U99 is a multi pattern tube mic featuring a k67 dual symmetrical backplate dual membrane capsule, along with the signature SdxUSA “fat” switch, and an innovative new High Frequency “boost-flat-cut” switch. The mic also features a “pad” switch for high SPL applications. Being a sdxusa mic, it uses a NOS tube and true linear high current power supply for fullest sound. The electronics circuit differs from the vintage mic in it's departure from non-removable frequency shaping components, and the removal of gain controlling negative feedback. It also features a larger output transformer to radically increase the Low Frequency headroom. Components have been auditioned and selected for best sound and lowest noise, not spreadsheet accountant low cost satisfaction. The mic comes with it's own proprietary N470 power supply, six pin XLR cable, and bottom thread shock mount.
Being a dual membrane capsule, and being a k67, the U99 has enough proximity effect to sound full, but not so much that it sounds boomy. This allows the mic to be placed close to sources. The added benefit of allowing the user to set the brightness and fullness characteristics of the mic via switches means unrivaled flexibility for the engineer, producer, or artist.
Because of it's limited proximity effect, great signal to noise ratio, and relatively high gain (without being overwhelming like most transformerless mics), the U99 finds use close up and far away. It is truly a studio's Utility Tube Mic. For vocals, it provides creamy warmth with air, without overwhelming proximity effect. It delivers breathtaking realism to acoustic guitar tracks, and the subtle timbral characteristics of pianos remain preserved. It brings sparkle and depth to drum kits, without the midrange boxiness of small diaphragms, and can be used in front of, overhead, or close up. Stereo pairs result in a stunning, spacious soundstage. For ADR and VO use, it frees the content from the unrealistic bandwidth limited honkey sound of the U87, and is prized for it superiority of articulation, and ability to grab dialog without unwanted artifacts.
For premier live sound, this mic finds use on sax, piano, and overheads. Because it is a dual membrane device, it is not subject to the explosive “P” popping single membranes are. Just about anything you would use a vintage U67 for can be captured with the U99, but with the warranty and reliability of a new mic without the maintenance headaches of a vintage mic.

I've had a version of this mic since about 2001. I've used it exclusively as a stereo pair w acoustic grand. I moved from spaced omni (too much comb filtering) to spaced cardioid at about 20cms apart, 90 degree, 45cms from strings, 45cms from hammers (a generous piece of advice from an engineer in Italy). The upgraded piano (Fazioli 278) and new mic position resulted in stellar sound. I use a 'clean' solid state micpre (GraceDesign Lunatec V2) and the great value for money Mytek ADDA 8x192 with a suitable DIO card. Can't complain.
