The Solid State Logic Revival 4000 is an all-analog channel strip that brings the world-class tone and flexibility of SSL’s legendary 4000 Series consoles straight to your rack. The Revival 4000's bold tone starts with an E-Series preamp featuring an original Jensen JT-115K-E transformer, while the versatile four-band EQ section features "Brown-Knob" and "Black-Knob" options, plus high- and low-pass filters. The VCA dynamics section includes an E Series compressor and gate for fine-tuning dynamics, while the B Series De-Esser is perfect for cleaning up sibilance.
Flexible routing allows you to switch between pre- or post-EQ processing, add a hardware insert to the chain, use an external sidechain signal, or link two units for stereo processing. Just like the classic SSL consoles it's derived from, the Revival 4000 channel strip delivers authentic British sonics, precise tone-shaping, and tons of flexibility for tracking and mixing in any modern studio.
The SSL Revival 4000 channel strip features a premium microphone preamp built around the same JT-115K-E Jensen transformer used in the original 4000 consoles, bringing rich harmonics, tight low-end, and punchy midrange to any source. Gain is adjustable via a large, stepped control that lets you drive the preamp into subtle saturation or maintain pristine clarity. A switchable pad and phase-invert button ensure compatibility with a wide range of microphones, instruments, and line inputs.
Positioned just before the dynamics section is a one-knob De-Esser circuit modeled after the rare 4000 B-Series console. It applies a fixed 10:1 ratio centered at 7 kHz, with a single threshold control that makes taming harsh sibilance on vocals and cymbals effortless—simply engage the Revival 4000's De-Esser with one switch and adjust the threshold knob to taste. This streamlined design quickly smooths out harsh vocals and cymbals without compromising overall tonal balance, making the Revival 4000 a go-to tool for tracking vocals or bright acoustic instruments that demand surgical high-frequency control.
The Revival 4000's discrete Class A VCA dynamics module mirrors the all-discrete VCA compressor found in the legendary SSL 4000 E Series consoles. The Compressor/Limiter section offers switchable soft-knee attack with a logarithmic release or hard-knee attack with a linear release, while the Expander/Gate section is ideal for cleaning up unwanted noise or fine-tuning dynamics. Both feature an extra-fast attack option for more responsive transient control. An external sidechain allows you to trigger the detector circuit from any source, and stereo linking provides easy dual-channel processing for drum busses, mix busses, or other stereo sources.
The Revival 4000 channel strip features a four-band parametric EQ with two distinct flavors: the Brown Knob (02) circuit from the 4000 E console and the Black Knob (242) circuit designed with George Martin. The Brown Knob imparts musical midrange grit and texture with ±15 dB gain per band and 12 dB/octave high- and low-pass filters, while the Black Knob delivers a tighter response with ±18 dB gain and an 18 dB/octave high-pass filter for extra low-end control. Four fully parametric bands cover the high, high-mid, low-mid, and low-frequency ranges, with generous overlap for creating complex EQ curves.
Routing flexibility is a hallmark of Solid State Logic design, and the SSL Revival 4000 embraces it fully. The Dynamics and De-Esser modules can be positioned pre- or post-EQ, and a balanced insert point on the rear panel lets you patch in additional outboard gear, just link you would on a console. A dedicated external sidechain input gives precise control over the dynamics processing, and sidechain linking allows you to use two Revival 4000 units as a stereo pair. Finally, an output trim knob offers ±20 dB of level adjustment to compensate for lost gain.
