The Merging Technologies MAD Infrastructure Pack provides up to 128 Inputs and Outputs from/to the network. Streams may come from a Merging/Neumann interface or from any 3rd party AES67/ RAVENNA device. (A Merging/Neumann interface is necessary to provide the mandatory ASIO clock to the driver.)
MAD Infrastructure Pack unlocks additional MAD features particularly useful for broadcasters, such as:
Modern broadcasting environments increasingly depend on remote production, a concept that enables audio to be streamed from locations worldwide to processing in private or public clouds. This approach offers unparalleled flexibility. For example, audio captured at a football match in Sydney can be streamed live to a mixer running in a virtual machine in Amsterdam. At the same time, an audio operator in London remotely monitors and controls the cloud-hosted mixer in real time. This setup not only reduces equipment shipping and traveling costs but also maximizes ROI, allowing operators to mix multiple events across different locations on the same day.
The MAD Infrastructure Pack plays a key role in these workflows, seamlessly connecting virtual machines for high-profile productions by Eurosport, Discovery, NEP, and more—powering global events like the Olympics and major tennis tournaments.
In an ST2022-7 broadcast facility, audio is carried over two separate networks all the way through the signal chain. This means, if one network goes down, audio can carry on uninterrupted, helping to eliminate single points of failures (SPOF). This is obviously a great fail-safe feature, but is also extremely valuable for maintenance, allowing a switch to be replaced or reconfigured without stopping production.
One of the key benefits of Audio over IP is flexibility. However, IP networks are inherently complex, and true flexibility can only be achieved through standardization and automated device configuration, ensuring fast and efficient interconnectivity. NMOS and LAWO Home are key standards that enable this seamless integration. MAD Infrastructure Pack supports LAWO Home natively and NMOS IS-04 as well as IS-05.
MAD isn’t just an interface for Windows applications to access the network. It also provides up to 192 internal channels which can be used to route audio in between applications.
ASIO is the most widely used driver in the audio industry, but in other markets, Microsoft WDM (Windows Driver Model) is essential. That’s why MAD includes 16 channels of WDM natively! By combining ASIO and WDM, MAD offers exceptional flexibility, enabling virtually any Windows application to connect to the network.
