Shure also offers a range of wireless microphone and monitor systems, in-ear monitors, and headphones, all of which live up to their reputation of great sound and uncompromising quality.
Starting at the dawn of the audio industry, Shure has been a leading force in the market for over a century. In that time, Shure has become a household name among musicians and audio engineers, and many of their iconic products are considered industry standards. But there’s so much more to the Shure story—keep reading to learn about their many technological innovations, high-quality standards, and diverse array of products.
A Century of Sound Sidney N. Shure originally founded The Shure Radio Company to sell home-built radio kits in the early 1920s. Not long afterward, the company expanded into the microphone market, starting with early carbon- and crystal-based designs before introducing the world’s first single-element dynamic cardioid microphone: the famous Unidyne 55. During the Second World War, Shure Incorporated produced specialized microphones for the Allied armed forces, eventually adopting MIL-SPEC durability standards for all of their microphones. After the War, Shure introduced a series of innovative products, including the first handheld wireless vocal mic (the Vagabond 88) and the first end-address unidirectional dynamic microphone (the Model 545 Unidyne III). As the company continued to grow and expand its international presence, Shure cemented its place as one of the most well-known audio brands in the world.
Industry-Standard Microphones Among Shure’s product line are several iconic microphones that have become industry standards. The SM57’s mid-forward sound and excellent bleed rejection have made it many engineers’ go-to dynamic mic for guitar cabinets and snare drums, and its close cousin the SM58 is the default vocal mic for most front of house engineers due to its extra plosive protection. The SM7B, a staple of radio booths, has been adopted by podcasters, streamers, and vocalists in recent years thanks to its flattering proximity effect and flexible positioning.
Headphones and In-Ears Monitors Shure’s transducer expertise goes both ways—in addition to their iconic microphones, the Shure lineup includes a wide range of headphones and earphones for professionals and consumers alike. Shure’s professional offerings include open- and closed-back studio headphones as well as in-ear monitors for performers, while their consumer range includes wireless and wired headphones and earphones for everyday use. All of the above deliver crystal-clear sound and Shure’s legendary reliability..
Wireless Microphones and Monitor Systems Ever since Shure introduced the world’s first wireless handheld vocal mic in 1953, they’ve been providing wireless workhorses that free performers to express themselves to the fullest. From the advanced Axient Digital microphone system for critical broadcasts to the affordable and streamlined PGX-D, you can rely on Shure wireless mics to provide rock-solid signal over long distances. Shure’s PSM range of wireless in-ear monitor systems allows performers to hear themselves clearly on any stage, from deafening arenas to Broadway theaters.
Conference and Meeting Solutions In addition to being mainstays of the studio and stage, Shure products can be found in classrooms, conference rooms, houses of parliament, and any situation that demands clear audio. With a huge range of wired and wireless podium and desktop mics (including push-to-talk models), Shure has a solution for capturing clear speech in any situation. The STEM and Microflex ecosystems include table-, ceiling-, and wall-mounted mics and speakers that facilitate learning and communication, while the IntelliMix line provides DSP, routing, and mixing for network AV systems.
