Sennheiser's best dynamic mic for live vocals just got better. The Sennheiser MD 431 II has a custom-tailored frequency response to achieve added transparency. A nearly frequency-independent polar pattern offers incredibly high gain before feedback and provides uncolored off-axis response. Its new rugged housing has a steel-mesh grille, a shock-suspended capsule, and a hum-bucking coil. It features a noiseless, magnetic reed on/off switch which is recessed in its handle, and internal electronics for refining proximity effect.
ALL microphones (Sonics) are subjective, so I will abstain from a “full on” technical review. Let it suffice to say that I am very pleased with this purchase. This is a GREAT sounding mic ! It is a “Pro Singer” mic for sure as proper knowledge and use of “mic technique” yields it’s full potential. For clients who have poor technique, a cardioid pattern mic of less expense might be just as suitable for live applications. Pros: I love the low weight of this mic ! Such is a huge plus as the singer won’t feel like they are holding a “brick” when hand held. The locking on and off switch is silent and is a plus as far as I’m concerned. The “finish” and feel is good. I definitely like the removable and cleanable “grill”. Indeed, I have zero “buyer remorse”. Cons: the only criticisms I have are wholly related to the mic clip. There is a “tab” on the clip which engages a grooved indention on the mic itself. The mic does not feel as secure (to me) when mounted as intended. However, some may think of the loose hold of the “clip” as a plus. Such, certainly does provide for easy and rapid transition from stand mount to hand held use and back. For a more “secure” hold, I find that the mic can be pushed further into the “seat” of the clip without any apparent risk of breaking it. My strongest complaint concerning the mic clip is that the threading for attachment to mic stands is sans metal ! For the sake of not “boogering up” the threading, a metal adapter is definitely recommended. While the mic clip is certainly not a deal breaker, it should be of a much higher quality than it is ! While I DO give the microphone five stars, I would give the mic clip four stars at best. Last but not least, I ordered this product from Vintage King as a “special order” and received it much, much more quickly than I had anticipated. Thumbs Up for the service and expertise which is offered by Vintage King !!!!!!
