Product Description
The Scan-Speak 18W/8542-10 is a generic replacement for the ProAc Studio 100 mid-woofer. It features the Symmetric Drive (SD) concept with copper in the magnet system which was invented by Scan-Speak. This high-quality magnet system design has thus been a key feature of Scan-Speak design since the company’s inception. The Classic woofers are highly praised and are used in some of the worlds most exceptional high-end loudspeakers.

We purchased and used a set of the Scan-Speak replacement woofers for about 8 months or more, and, sadly, found them quite different from the originals – brighter, crunchier, harsher, and more two-dimensional. We thought they’d break in at some point and start to sound warmer and more 3 dimensional, like the ProAc originals, which we always loved, but that never happened. Yes, the Scan-Speaks are less expensive, and that’s definitely nice, but they’re different enough in a negative way for us, that we ended up ordering the genuine ProAc replacements and eating the purchase price of the Scan-Speaks. Now, with the ProAc originals installed, we once again love the sound and utility of our ProAc 100s. Just thought people should know that at least for us the Scan-Speak woofers were not a workable replacement.
