Rycote InVision Studio USM Shock Mount

Product Description
Like the other InVision mounts, the Rycote USM makes use of Rycote's patented vibration-resistant Lyre mount, but on this mount the W-shaped Lyres are placed around a central mounting ring with adjustable fasteners, allowing the USM to accommodate any microphone with a diameter of between 18 and 55 millimeters.

- Offers up to twice the isolation from cable and stand-borne noise of traditional 'cat's cradle' elasticated microphone mounts

The Rycote USM updates the concept of the microphone suspension for the 21st century, completely omitting any elasticated parts and using modern materials to create a virtually indestructible shock-mount with a performance that far outstrips that of the humble 'cat's cradle' suspension. In controlled tests at the Rycote factory, the USM provided up to twice the isolation of traditional microphone suspension systems.

Rycote Shock mounts are awesome. Many major mic manufacturers such as Telefunken and Shoeps have started shipping mics out with these mounts now. Very affordable, very effective.

These are solid and do the job very well. Only knock is getting the mic in and out is a bit of a pain because it’s requires 2 hands and a few seconds to loosen/tighten the screws, but they are significantly cheaper than other mounts.

This Rycote shock mount was used with a Royer R-122 MKII microphone. They are about 3/4” in diameter. The mount works great.

Still 5 stars even though initial setup and subsequent adjustment takes slightly longer than with a N___mann screw top style mount. Once you get the technique down it becomes automatic. Any disadvantage from that is offset by the fact that it can go from holding a skinny MKH416, KM184 sized mic to supporting my trusty but brick-like Soundeluxe U195 with a few twists of the twisty finger thingies :) The brilliant but optional pop filter is a must have. Spend the hundred bucks and get both. Oh... and there's a good chance you will be dead before it needs repair.

Works great - holds a relatively heavy smaller diameter ribbon mic horizontally with no drooping. Money well spent!
