The Genelec 8010A squeezes true reference performance and extended frequency response into an extremely compact package. When studio space is limited or you record on the move, the 8010A is your reliable monitoring companion. Don’t be fooled by its affordable price tag and modest dimensions, the 8010A is every bit a Genelec pro monitor: uncolored, accurate and powerful. A combination of enclosure, driver and electronic design gives the 8010A extremely neutral characteristics and the ability to adapt to your space via simple rear panel room compensation switches. So whether you’re in a bedroom studio, hotel room or OB van, you can always trust what you’re hearing.
The DCW technology shapes the emitted wavefront in a controlled way, allowing predictable tailoring of the directivity (dispersion) pattern. To make the directivity uniform and smooth, the goal is to limit the radiation angle so that the stray radiation is reduced. It results in excellent flatness of the overall frequency response as well as uniform power response. This minimizes early reflections and provides a wide and controlled listening area achieving accurate sound reproduction on and off-axis. Minimized early reflections and controlled, constant directivity have another important advantage: the frequency balance of the room reverberation field is essentially the same as the direct field from the monitors. As a consequence, the monitoring system's performance is less dependent on room acoustic characteristics.
Intelligent Signal Sensing, ISS circuitry tracks the signal input of the loudspeaker and detects if it is in use. If the ISS circuit does not find any audio on the input for a period of time, it sets the loudspeaker to a low-power sleep state and the loudspeaker will consume less than 0.5 watts. When an input signal is detected, the loudspeaker immediately turns itself on.
In order to improve the flatness of the frequency response and the power response of free standing loudspeaker systems, Genelec have designed a highly innovative enclosure optimized to match the properties of the monitor drivers, featuring rounded edges, and gently curved front and sides. In addition to achieving an unsurpassed flatness of the frequency response, the enclosure having minimum diffractions yields superb sound stage imaging qualities.
To solve the problems attendant to placing speakers directly on a desktop or a console meter bride, Genelec developed an efficient and very practical solution - the Iso-Pod (Isolation Positioner/Decoupler) It is attached to the speaker's aluminum enclosure and has four shallow feet and it is made from special lossy rubber-like material. It is firmly attached to the enclosure so that it can be slid along the curved bottom or side surface to allow for a ±15° tilt of the loudspeaker. The loudspeakers’ acoustical axis can then be pointed precisely towards the listener by adjusting the enclosure’s inclination with the Iso-Pod. The vibration isolation and damping properties reduce midrange coloration caused by unwanted vibration transmitted to supporting surfaces.
Small package big sound.
These diminutive speakers are small only in their outward dimensions. They are 100% Genelec is sound quality, representing your playback/ monitoring. Couple these with a Genelec subwoofer and you are missing nothing. (I have a Genelec 7050B and the match is spot on.) The stereo image with these monitors is better than what I was previously using--those monitors were good stuff, concentric speakers / coaxial speakers where the stereo image SHOULD be better, but the little 8010A Genelec speakers are better. Add to the list of positives for the 8010A is they have (like other Genelec speakers) metal grills over the woofer and tweeter making them a great solution for remote location monitors. AND... these monitors are very well suited for smaller spaces while still delivering upon the Genelec promise of precision drivers with an honest representation of playback, not true of many other smaller monitors from other companies which relegate smaller monitors to 'budget' status in their product line up. If you want to set up a 5.1 or 7.1 monitoring arrangement, look no further than the 8010A with an appropriate subwoofer. The 8010A is best friend to small studio/ monitoring rooms, remote location monitoring, film/ TV mixing--I do not think there is a better small monitor option.
Phenomenal new monitors for my home studio! Thank you to everyone at Vintage King, you were very kind and helpful with my order.
