The Overstayer 8776A Imperial Channel is an analog channel strip designed for recording, mixing, and creative sound shaping. Combining microphone, line, and instrument inputs with filters, equalization, FET limiting, and harmonic saturation, the 8776A delivers a highly interactive signal chain inspired by late-1960s British solid-state consoles. The unit is self-powered and can operate independently or as part of a larger modular recording system. The module can be mounted vertically in dual, quad, or a 10 space rack-mountable chassis (5RU high).
The Imperial Channel’s preamp and drive stages are based on classic late-60s English console designs, offering a broad sweet spot with rich low-order harmonics and forgiving nonlinear behavior before clipping. Multiple gain stages distribute harmonic coloration throughout the signal path, allowing users to move from subtle warmth to aggressive analog distortion while maintaining musicality and depth.
The 8776A combines several analog processing tools into a single compact vertical module, including resonant filters, a four-band equalizer, FET limiting, and Overstayer’s MAS harmonic circuitry. The equalizer features high and low shelving bands alongside two fully sweepable midrange bands with proportional-Q behavior, allowing both corrective and highly creative tonal shaping. The integrated FET limiter includes sidechain filtering and selectable attack and release characteristics for flexible dynamic control.
Extensive rear-panel patch points provide access to each processing stage individually, enabling custom routing configurations and external processing integration. Separate inputs and outputs are available for the preamp, EQ, limiter, and harmonic sections, allowing simultaneous recording of multiple signal paths or insertion of external effects such as pedals and processors. Independent dry and wet output faders further support advanced parallel processing workflows.
The 8776A features transformer-coupled microphone and line inputs, balanced outputs, and dedicated instrument input connectivity. Additional controls include polarity reversal, phantom power, pad switching, and multi-segment metering for both signal level and gain reduction monitoring.
