The Vanguard Audio Labs VLSM shock-mount features an open front which allows you to position your microphone as close to the source as possible while preventing early reflections from the front 120-degrees. Most shock-mounts come standard with flimsy elastic bands that get stretched out and saggy, and sometimes snap without warning – not something you want to happen when your mic is in there! Vanguard use aerospace-grade rubberized suspension rings that won’t break, sag, crack, or stretch over time. They picked a precise durometer for the suspension rings that will firmly support even the heaviest microphones, while still maintaining superb decoupling properties to prevent unwanted rumble and vibration.
The VLSM comes as a standard accessory for the Vanguard V13 Tube Condenser and V44S Stereo Condenser microphones. However, it utilizes a standard M22x1 ISO Metric threading. The VLSM should be compatible for up to 68mm (2.68″) diameter microphones with M22 threading at their base.
Vanguard uses heavy-duty zinc and aluminum alloys during construction of the VLSM. There's no brazes or welds that can weaken over time. Instead, each component is precision-cast and machined. Vanguard chose to make the swivel out of impact-resistant ABS thermoplastic polymer to provide superior friction for the mounting swivel. This will keep the microphone from slowly sliding out of position.
This thing is insane, probably the best shockmount on the market right now. Why do I say this? For starters it’s very solidly built and it’s VERY heavy. Like it’s heavier than all of my mics besides my V44s which it came with and my SE Z5600a mkii. I’m not worried about any mic I put in it being too heavy for it and it’ll start to sag, hell this thing probably won’t ever sag. You tighten it to where it’s snug and it won’t move a millimeter. I want to buy an entire set of these for all of my mics, but alas money doesn’t grow on trees. In case your wondering it won’t fit most thicker bodies mics and the bigger tube mics. My SE would fit if I screwed it into the slot that the 5 pin XLR would screw onto, but because of that I don’t think it’s usable there. If vanguard made a bigger version of this to accommodate chunkier tube mics I would buy it in a heartbeat. Tl;dr you can trust any mic you own to be safe on this shockmount, just make sure your stand is sturdy enough to hold it.
