Making sure your artist is comfortable is the most important part of an engineer’s job. If the artist is unhappy or uncomfortable in any way, it doesn’t matter how much great gear you have, you will never capture an excellent performance. Integrating a quality headphone system will make or break your studio, and when setup properly, will keep clients coming back. Vintage King offers a wide variety to cover everyone from the home studio, to world class recording facility.
Choose the system that is right for you. The most common system is a line level receiver that is receiving a mix set by the engineer, either on their console or DAW. This is then split out to one set, or multiple sets of headphones. Models like the Rupert Neve designs RNHP, Burson Audio Conductor V2, or Presonus HP4 work in this setup. This is the easiest and most common setup in smaller studios, and when dealing with one or two artists at a time, it is much easier to dial in a mix, although, this doesn’t allow each artist to customize their own mix. For a more advanced setup, look into something like the Hear Technologies Hear Back Four Pack, Mymix Studio, or Q Mix System. These systems offer the ability for each artist in the session to completely customize every aspect of their mix. So if the drummer needs more click, the bass player needs more bass, and the singer needs more vocals and reverb, they can all dial in their custom settings and not interfere with anyone else's mix.
