In 2003, Mark Pirro was building a prototype microphone for his new company, Placid Audio, and created something that was extremely distinct. While his creation (dubbed the Copperphone), only covered a small bandwidth of frequencies, Pirro sought to inspire engineers and producers to find perfection in its simplicity and limitation. From there, Placid Audio began expanding their offerings with additional microphones, all of which feature the brand's trademark vintage look and strong build quality.
