The Pearlman TM 250 is a limited edition, custom order recreation of the famous Telefunken 250. Starting at the top this microphone utilizes a C12 type capsule hand-made in Denmark by Tim Campbell. Old style carbon resistors are used in the audio circuit to maintain the original sound. A select 6072 (12AY7) tube is hand picked and tested for use in the microphone as only the best tubes will be used. The CINEMAG output transformer is an accurate replica of the original part from a sixties era Tele 250 and delivers that beautiful, vintage smoothness. All mics are still hand-made one at a time and are wired point-to-point.
Included in the system are the custom American made power supply, shock mount, hand-wired Mogami cable, and a complimentary aluminum carrying case for protection during shipping.
I owned the TM250 for about 6 months ....great sparkling top end...not a dark mic by any means...so if gobby and warm is what your going for , go with a C12 or 67. Great w Vox or anything needing to pop out in a mix . Virtually hard to get a bad sound but that being said may not be the right choice for a thin, or brittle source... the mid range is insanley accurate, and the bottom end is a tight , smooth response...but that top end sparkles like magic...im giving 4 stars because it isnt as versatile as say a u67 (can sound great on a thin vocal or bright vocal , where as the 250 can be a tad bright on certain sources ). Power supply can also be a tad discerning as you need to make sure it is accesable from a control room into your tracking room (not an issue usually) David is awesome at answering any questions you may have... Had to reach him on one or two occasions and it was almost like phoning a friend ...super smart and helpful. I wish he made a 67 replica ....
