A true union of performance and style, the sleek Output Frontier 6.5" 2-Way Active Studio Monitor is the product of a collaboration between Output and Barefoot Sound. Originally known for their software instruments and plug-ins, Output has attracted a dedicated following with their line of stylish and affordable studio furniture, including the popular Platform desk, Sidecar rack, speaker stands and acoustical panels. Barefoot Sound revolutionized the world of monitor speakers back in 2006 with innovative technologies and expert acoustical design, and continues to advance the art of speaker design with each offering.

The first thing you notice about the Frontier monitors is their utterly unique look—but it’s not all for show. The solid walnut base not only gives each speaker a distinct look, it also helps isolate the cabinet, reducing vibrations transmitted to your desk or speaker stands. A small gap between the base and upper portion of the cabinet is highlighted by a tasteful white LED that doubles as a status indicator.

The next thing you notice is the coaxial, dual-concentric driver arrangement, which combines a time-aligned 6.5-inch woofer and 1.25-inch tweeter for point-source sound that remains perfectly in phase from any listening position. Designed and tuned by Thomas Barefoot, the aluminum-alloy driver diaphragms produce a flat, anechoic response from 45 Hz to 25 kHz with low distortion. The forward-facing bass port allows you to place your speakers close to a wall without worrying about low-end buildup, giving you an accurate representation of the bass in your mix.

Committed to reducing their impact on the environment, Output has designed Frontier to minimize waste and reduce power consumption. An EcoMode switch on the back of each speaker dramatically reduces power draw from its 265-watt maximum to just 280 milliwatts, helping you save power when you’re using them for casual listening. Recyclable aluminum, renewable wood and 100% recyclable packaging reduce waste—not that you’ll ever want to part with these monitors.
